Just read this -

Approval for a major upgrade of pylons through the Cairngorms would blight the face of the national park, according to a new campaign group.

They want to construct massive pylons through the National Park - WHY - to carry the electricity from bloody wind farms - not only do they destroy what little wilderness we have left but then they have to destroy other areas to move the power around - and the costs of the wind farms NEVER show all the other costs involved!!!

Very true. Funny how the French seem to have acquired the mantle of finest gastronomes in Europe, when in fact it should belong to the Belgians. Mind you, they're bloody dangerous drivers and the roads are full of potholes!

Horsemeat aint too bad.......... the smell of the meat is , however quite different.. The French/per caput eat more horsemeat than the Belgiums.Anyway while you on it-- DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU EAT ANYWAY??- remember - I think the UK suffered from MAD COW desease.............. ah. I see it now Codders-- you were eating that cheap meat in 2000...... explains a lot. They say the first signs of madness comes from irrelevevent comments on RibNet?. If I were you -stick to windfarms... Afterall the turbines are pretty inoffensive apart from being practically useless. Me - I am a nuclear man.

What would your ideal solution to the UKs power needs be then, burn more oil, more coal, build more Selafields , Codprawn are you one of these Do Gooders , what was the plan to get the free wind electricty in the first instance, of course its got to be distrubited, would you like it better if the cables were underground?
There is already pylons there anyway,.......

Build more Nuclear power stations - they actually have less impact on people than ANY of the other methods!!!

The French are one of the few countries that can meet the Kyoto CO2 levels because they have a lot of Nuclear power.

In London in the 1950s smog from burning coal killed 12,000 people or more - did anyone call for coal to be banned???

People harp on about how terrible nuclear power is and how long the radiation lasts - remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki are thriving cities now.

PROPERLY controlled there is nothing wrong with Nuclear power - but there is a hell of a lot RIGHT with it.

For once codders, I am in complete agreement-apart from when they get fusion to work??. The only thing left to solve is waste- but I reckon they will solve that in the next 5 years.

This is so typical of the general public.

Everybody wants electricity, gas, broadband etc etc but the companies are not allowed to put in the infrastructure!!

Bury the damn cables and bill all the people that complain for the extra cost! I bet they'll stop complaining!!!

Anyway nuclear power is the way forward its just the hippy generation that hate it.

Nuclear power, combained with Energy from Waste is the way to go!!

A MAJOR opportunity that they missed was to build a Servern Barrage at the same time as a 2nd crossing - they could have built a motorway along the top and killed 2 birds with one stone!!! And I AM serious!!!

I normally HATE barrages because they play hell with local wildlife - swansea and Cardiff are classic examples and the only reason they were built was to make the areas look pretty!!!

At least with a Severn barrage it would have generated as much as 20% of Britain's electricity - and that is one hell of a lot!!! The benefits WOULD have outweighed the impact.

Blood hell codders stop talking sense I hate having to agree with you The thing about impact assessments on things like barrages is that they are very local in there scope and do not consider the impact to the whole country. Sure a few birds will be effected by a Severn barrage but the overall effect of generating electricity by other means will have more impact on wild lift
I think the barrage should go in from Land End to St David’s then we could generate 100% of our requirement Des

Not quite as simple as that but a very valid point. I just don't understand how Tony Blair's mob can whinge about CO2 and then insist on putting up lamposts everywhere - even on tiny little country lanes!!! Fly over France or Spain etc at night and you can see clusters of lights where the towns are - fly over Britain and it is hard to see where Southampton finishes and Manchester begins - and I am NOT joking!!!

Also if people tried turning down their central heating a notch and wearing a jumper it would be a big help. I find most people's houses are way to hot - normal room temp should be 20C - most people have it up around 25C - women are the ones to blame!!!
