RIBase
Make a boot CD then
You'll need to set your bios to boot from CD before your hard drive to use it.

Are you sorted yet?

If not then this site can help

It does sound like you have a hijack file sat on your PC. Hijack this is not an easy tool to understand but the above forum will help you solve the problem without (hopefully) needing to format.

Hacked off

Wow. This is another one of those 'divided by a common language' examples. In North America the term would be 'Pissed off' whereas 'Hacked off' would be a thread about John Bobbit.

Thought Hacked off was rather more PC than some of the other words I wanted to use. Besides "Hacked" has some comuter meaning as I am having Virus/spyware problems.

Actually, that depends on the version of the OS and the type of boot CD. Some versions (OEM mostly) of XP will only allow a reload; they will not allow you to wipe the harddrive prior to reinstall.

As said, ideally you want to delete the partition and repartition it prior to reinstalling the OS. This is difficult to do without the proper tools (correct CD for starters.)

Yeh, what I'm worried about is that if I reformat I might find that I haven't a full version of windows XP (as I have one from the company that sold me the Computer).

I'm waiting for some software that a RIBnet member is going to send me (though the post) at the moment.

I'll keep you appraised on the situation.
