Good news for BP

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8233504.stm

Good news for Britain - the US and everyone really - BP has found a massive new oil field - 3 billion barrels.

Nice to see the largest oil producer in the US is British!!!

i hate them all

As if they have just found it! The cinic in me would believe they know where plenty more is with the technology they have, funded by the serious oil profits of yesteryear. They just keep the world in suspense to keep prices high.

They have probably only now physically drilled to find it and clarified their thoughts.

I doubt that very much. Rmember the ONLY reason we pay so much for fuel is TAX TAX TAX.

Without the tax petrol is prob about 35p per litre - I could live with that!!!

A petrol station makes more money on a small bottle of pop than they do on £20 of petrol - seriously!!!

Even more sickening - on a 40,000L load in a full tanker the filling station makes about £1200 - yes that's all. Gordon Brown makes about £28,000!!!

Have to agree with Codders (again), a mates friend owned a petrol station and he said the same, they make more on selling crisps and stuff.

codders

Whilst i agree codders that the reason we pay so much for fuel is because of tax and petrol stations make only tuppence on each litre if they are lucky, my point is it is in the interests of the oil companies to be cautious/discrete/lie about their oil reserves.

The oil companies/BP announce massive profits each year. It is they that i am on about, they disclose what stocks/reserves they "think" they have left which in turn influences crude oil prices and their profits. Occasionally they announce, "new" finds, I somehow think these are know by some internally rather earlier than they let on.

Wasn't really commenting on the fuel at the pump prices or who makes the bulk of the profit.

No bloody wonder - have you seen what they charge for that stuff. 500mL about £1.50+ - that's 3x the price of petrol (10x the price of petrol without duty) and most of its water!

The oil companies know where the oil is but its getting it, as technology improves so does the depth of well that can be drilled, hence "new" fields are been discovered. The oil companies can't claim these wells fields as reserves as they haven't been drilled yet.
Quite a few North Sea platforms whose original wells have ran dry are now used for remote oil fields with subsea tiebacks.

The big oil companies are under pressure from our government to produce oil and gas, when the Brittania shut down we were limited to TFA (touch f**k all) incase we tripped the platform. Not sure of the ins and outs of it all, probably something to do with the economy and buying gas in from other countries.

Hope we (company I work for) get some spin off from this as we did the Thunder Horse project Subsea Trees for them a few years ago close to the new find.

Come on codders I cant believe that you missed my original post was full and sagging at the seams with sarcasm and cynicism. For future reference treat all my posts as such
On a serious note though regarding fuel, i am getting between 38 and 41MPG out of the landrover commuting 65 miles a day i can nearly afford to run it
It would be nice if fuel prices fell with oil prices though! but i guess between OPEC and the Govt we is stitched up like a kipper

freelander.....no it is a "real landrover" its a 1960 109 series 2, with a 2.8 isusu engine turboed and intercooled, 1.222 discovery transfer case, Defender main 5 speed box D suffix with the high 5th gear 3.55 final drive ratio. 235/85/16 tyres, Parabolic springs, and series axles with rangerover/defender discs on the back and toyota discs/wilwood calipers on the front.
The 40 mpg is driving at a steady 56mph, and genarally driving like an old fart!! driven at normal Mway speeds probably nearer 28-30mpg.
I have done 40mpg for 3 tanks of fuel now and thats an average, i thought it was unbelievable too...........

Funnily enough the engine hour clock on the tacho face in the landrover isnt labeled engine hours, i labeled it hours of purgatory!
When i die i teke it with me and go straight to heaven
