Oh yes they are Will! We like nothing better than to leave behind stragglers. Might sound heartless but experience dictates they're usually of an attitude like the one you display. Oh and before you all vilify me who is the selfish one? The couple who amble around the terminal building (often the smallest possible like Bournemouth) making 200 people wait or the ones who sit there cuddling their cold coffee deperate not to waste a drop?
I actually sat next to a couple in the coffee bar in Stansted once, the wife trying to gee the husband on "hurry dear we'll miss the flight". I was in uniform but with a plain black jacket on. "No hurry dear, they're not going to leave without us, we have a bag on board". "Oh yes they will" I said and I explained the above.
Yes I know from time to time it's not the passenger's fault but we can't make that judgement. That said, if we have a slot I will always be more inclined to wait with the doors open for stragglers. It's more than can often be said of my colleagues though.
