Gatwick Security Time

Anybody flown from Gatwick recently that knows the length of time its taking to get through secuirty now. Flying early morning midweek?

Just thinking how much time to give it.

Flew out of North Terminal about 4 weeks ago, international flight to the USA
It was a mid morning flight on a Monday, it took no more than 10 minutes to pass through all the security checks.

Perfect, forgot to say we are doing north terminal too. We are going through about 5 am so should be about the same then. Super. Thanks.

Surely having checked in on time the airline cannot deny boarding if you are stuck at the security comb?

I bet they would to avoid missing their depature slot and you I imagine that some idiots would check in and then amble about for a while rather than getting on with it.

We are going with easy jet who's motto is, "IF YOUR LATE, WE WONT WAIT". We've already checked in online for a few weeks ahead so only have to go straight to security.

Whats interesting is their check in desk closes 40 mins before the flight leaves, but then says the gate closes 30 minutes before flight. So that gives you ten minutes to get through security and to the gate, now thats tight.

Very true, but I bet they would just find them, throw them off and leave you and your luggage, i've watched those airport programs, they must be right, its on tv

Oh yes they are Will! We like nothing better than to leave behind stragglers. Might sound heartless but experience dictates they're usually of an attitude like the one you display. Oh and before you all vilify me who is the selfish one? The couple who amble around the terminal building (often the smallest possible like Bournemouth) making 200 people wait or the ones who sit there cuddling their cold coffee deperate not to waste a drop?

I actually sat next to a couple in the coffee bar in Stansted once, the wife trying to gee the husband on "hurry dear we'll miss the flight". I was in uniform but with a plain black jacket on. "No hurry dear, they're not going to leave without us, we have a bag on board". "Oh yes they will" I said and I explained the above.

Yes I know from time to time it's not the passenger's fault but we can't make that judgement. That said, if we have a slot I will always be more inclined to wait with the doors open for stragglers. It's more than can often be said of my colleagues though.

Went through South terminal last thursday. They have security scanners on both ground and first floor now. There was a big queue at ground floor but it was very swift upstairs. They've either turned down the sensitivity of their scanners too, or else they were having a 'can't be bothered day'. Got through with very little hassle. I would still leave a good 20 mins spare even at a quiet time just in case.

Our flight closes the gate at 5 so was thinking of getting to security at 0415. Think that should give us enough time.
