I am arriving at southampton airport at 20.00 then pick up a rental hire car, then have to catch the ferry to cowes at 20.30 but not sure if i would make it? any advice????

It is do;able on those times, however getting the car sorted handed over etc would IMO cut it very fine.

The timing for this look to be very optomistic. If your flying with "Flymaybe" chances are you will be a little late, car hire handover will be at least 10mins and the drive from the airport into Southampton with all green lights, has to be around 15 mins.

The ferry operator, states you need to arrive 30 mins before departure, whilst I have pushed this a little (15mins), I think you will be there with about 5 mins to spare, if that. So do you think the flight will be early or is it worth trying for a later ferry service ....

I would book the later ferry, most Travelodges are 24hr check-in. The chances of getting from landing to the ferry in 30 minutes are nil.. Even if you landed bang on 20:00, it will be another 15-30 minutes before you get to the car rental desk.
