Only messing about in your engine but you have to read the following:

I suggest you join the campaign against dihydrogen monoxide. It's a killer as well!

To be honest I agree - another one to watch is E211 - a preservative also found in diet drinks. It made me very ill for a while until I realised what was causing it. i honestly think the reason there are so many cases of Asthma these days is because of these 2 substances.

Ok it may have nothing to do with RIBs but I thought that was what "other stuff" was all about - seems to fit the bill ok!!!

You are implying that E211 (sodium benzoate) is a preservative used predominantly in "diet drinks" - but it is not - it is used in all sorts of drinks and foods as a preservative including "full fat" varients of most carbonated drinks as well as many fruit juices as well as some foods.

In the interests of balance sodium benzoate occurs naturally in a number of fruits - and even in the human body (without an external source of benzoate).

It has been added to drinks as a preservative for about 100 years.

Maybe you should read up on the subject!!!

I agree it is not ONLY used in "diet" drinks but - generally speaking - the less sugar a drink has the more E211 it will contain. For example good old Coke has no E211 but reduced sugar versions do - as does the new strange trend in flavoured water.

It has been known for quite some time that E211 mixed with ascorbic acid(vit c)releases benzine - not a good product to have in your drink!!!

You mention it occurs in plants as if that makes it ok - remember heroin/opium and ricin are also plant based - and you have HCL in your stomach...........

- I can't find any recent peer reviewed publication on the subject by Prof Piper. His own website also makes no particular mention of it. Perhaps we are talking about 8 year old research Piper did - which was performed on yeast cells not human cells and which openly admitted that only the gastrointestinal tract actually encounters sodium benzoate - since it is metabolised to other products which weren't in his study. How a compound only in the gastrointestinal tract causes altzimers is a mystery.

yes - benzene is a product of a reaction between ascorbic acid and benzoates, but that in itself doesn't make benzoate unsafe.
