Researching about the Snorkel I found info that states that when it is fitted the engines lose power and torque, is this right?

The company that alleges this produce this :-

I have nevere heard of it before but it should give a 10% saving on fuel plus more power, anyone heard of or used these?

Thanks

Some people swear by them - others at them!!!

A snorkle will reduce airflow slightly by it's length BUT this is then offset by the cooler air and the ram effect so ends up about the same!!!

The only time you will get a problem is with a V8 working hard - which is why I am going to fit 2!!!

What you want is a Van Aaken smart box - they have been tweaking Land Rovers for years.

The smart box does not alter anything and can be easily removed when needed!!!

One last point Pete - just remember ALL new engines need running in despite what the makers say!!!

The TD5 doesn't really loosen up until it gets to about 10,000 miles - I noticed that in the Discovery I had but then again it was on hire - only took me about 4 or 5 weeks to rack up the mileage!!!

Don't rev the engine too much - especially when cold - don't let it labour in too high a gear etc. And remember with a Turbo Diesel to let the engine idle for 10 seconds or so before switching off.

Forgive me if I am teaching Granny to suck eggs but I tend to look after my engines very well - never had a problem with any car i have owned engine wise - brakes, suspension and tyres tend to suffer rather a lot though!!!
