To Rich. B.

Not a common or garden MODERATOR with no status ..... (if you know what I mean),

After that ... well there ain't no such thing as private when one commits something to the net now is there...

You can tie things down quite well and use mail encryption which is really difficult to crack. There's a good product around for instant messaging as well... Now I've never had control of a UNIX mail system, but I have seen examples of mail admins routinely reading through stuff... and you can imagine what happens to all the dodgy attachments that get "quarantined" by a mail sweeper system. Let's just say that I witnessed some seriously unprofessional practises that made me relieved I wasn't a member of that particular team!

personal opinion BTW

I guess it's a bit different when someone 'owns' a site..I would view everything on that site as coming under the patronage & potential scrutiny (as necessary) by the owner...(& I wouldn't have any prob with that to be honest)

Mmmmm...

I think that John should really have a usage policy. For example, if I typed some information here, it's my work and I can prove I published it (as long as it's still here) and any photographs I post - I retain the copyright.
I can't remember what happens when you "sign up" - there's some stuff then. But I don't believe that ownership of the system and software implies ownership of the data.

Very much personal (idiosyncratic even) opinion...

By patronage/ scrutiny I was thinking of ACCESS to everything on the site...

I would imagine a responsible site owner (& JK certainly is) would like to have the possibility of access if only to be used when necessary..

e.g. someone posting something dangerous; spamming; even as extreme as someone /something needing investigation (etc. etc.)

I've been red blobbed again, at 00.15, for this thread this time. Guess who was online then.
