Dash Cams

Part of my job involves driving a 30 tonne LGV .. which I enjoy .. but the abuse you get from inconsiderate D**k heads is unbelievable at times .. I do get the same whilst towing the boat, but not to the same extent. If you really want to see people toying with death .. try driving a large tractor or JCB

Anyways .. a few months back I got side swiped on a motorway by an abusive twat who undertook me to boot, quite how a car was going to push an HGV out of the way was beyond me ... I had no where to go .. traffic all around .... so my wheel studs did the talking .. In the light of its 'your word' against theirs department, and the crash for cash problem, Ive invested in a dash cam, and I think its brilliant .. this Blackvue one is a 2 channel full 1080p HD one that has 2 cams , ideal for me as I have the main one out front, but a secondary one for the passenger door blind spot to catch the very brave undertaking cyclists usually a motorist would have this one out the back window.

The software to revue all your footage is very good (pic attached) and lets you do loads with what the camera captures .. GPS movement (or lack of) lets it decide when you are static and changes the record pattern in park mode, and the internal shock and G force sensors make it record 'protected' events which the device will not overwrite.

It also has the facility to do a full journey review with gps map position, and you can see it all live on an app on your iphone or tablet or review it there too

I'm still learning with it, but if any of you have advice to offer feel free, or questions to ask

I reckon that the Go Pros would do the job for those of you that have them. When not on the boat put them on the dash

The thing with a proper dash cam is though its set up to record a huge range of events efficiently (with sound if neccessary) it knows when you've parked etc .. or can be set to waken if youve left your vehicle but gets a shunt (like in a car park) .. and store the most important ones so they are not overwritten .. plus the google maps addition is very clever

Ah!! so the google maps can prove that you were in a certain area if necessary . Clever.

Surely the opening of the bonnet or tilting of the cab renders the view pointless?
