Obviously I didn't rush to replace the Worx with the same again, hence the thread. However, in fairness to the thing, it has rumbled on nicely for many years - maybe 6 or 7? It was the battery that calved. Having looked at re-cell outfits in the US (nice youtube vids showing the technique) the price there suggests that it would not make sense to do the same thing this side - guessing they charging around what, £75 all in for a nicad rebuild? At anything over £50 I'd not bother - just hang on to the drill and lend it to the lads when they want one - hide the new one

Still - useful info for other tools, present and future.

Well, it depends on how many holes constitutes a 'lot of holes' and how quickly you need to drill each one. As an accomplished ole maker, after getting pissed off with spending too much money on the so called quality makes and having the batteries expire, I bought 3 BnQ own make ones plus a spare battey when building my boat and that was circa 2002 - one for the pilot drill, one for the countersink and one as the screwdriver - about 12 qwid each iirc. I've still got two of them left and working fine. I reckon that's a good price per ole. I suppose it depends on how much you consider reasonable to pay to get your hole and screw it.

On the hole () I am leaning towards the Hitachi dual battery package recommended by Boggy at £100 delivered. Batteries are a bit titchy but have the advantage of one on, one off for busy jobs and a reserve for other slower days.

And I might even embarrass Mollers by calling his mates at Battery Rework and saying he recommended them to fix the old Worx pack

Hitachi are good. Dewalt are not what they used to be, there's a rumour that Dewalt supply 'budget' quality gear to screwfix. The smart buy would be a lightly used Milwaukee 18v combi from Ebay within your budget. Check out CEF electrical wholesalers. They have some tidy Milwaukee deals.
