The Vulcan noise is air intake resonance when it gets past something like 92% N1, if I remember rightly. It's quite an eerie sound — imagine being on the other side and hearing that coming towards you...

Have to say I've never seen the attraction of the Vulcan...never proven in combat, very expensive, not the most beautiful airframe. What did it actually achieve?

IIRC: Vulcan Bomber proved during the falkland war that Britian could bomb main land Argentina ....

Ok most of the bombs missed Port Stanley's Run way - but it was the psychological affect.
