One big difference with the Packard built Merlins they were fitted with Stromberg injection carburettors unlike the early RR ones
Just found some of me granddads wonderful hand written note books from the war when he specialised in aircraft engine carburettors & supercharges especially RR Merlins & worked in England the USA & Canada
Seem to remember him on about diaphragm carburettors that were developed to resolve the older Merlin inversion ( upside down attitude ) problems with the old float chamber ones to counter the Daimler benze injection engines .

Best looking aircraft? Hawker Fury.

A modified EE Lightning was rumoured to have scared the pants off a U-2 pilot by getting very close in a zoom climb and descending again.
