I am not at liberty to go in to full detail but I do know that there is something on the table to cover all aspects of your petition. Someone very close to where you live is very much involved with the setting up with of this and is confident that it will happen. An announcement is close so watch this space. In the meantime I commend your actions and recommend that everyone signs the petition to assist with the correct outcome. Alan P

To my shame I didn't know that Nimrod got retired in 2011. Did it really happen very quietly, or was I snoozing?

I think we used up all their budget when they assisted with the Atlantic Rescue in 2004!!! Alan P

They didn't exactly shout about it! However it was covered up here in the local media when they withdrew them from Kinloss (and the incident which lead up to it) - not sure it got as much attention nationally.

It was only a few months ago i read the royal navy had to send its nearest warship from Portsmouth to intercept a Russian war ship off the Scottish coast .

And it took it 2 days to get there

I'm also quite annoyed ... no... very annoyed about the lack of support vessels which have been stood down from our inshore waters on the west coast to protect against ships in danger ... we are cutting the purse too tight, and its showing .. signed ofcourse

We all must be mindful that the aircrafts of all country's can only search. They cannot rescue. They can however drop equipment to assist while a surface craft makes passage, Alan P
