Cheap dent repair?

I "aquired" a mystery dent in the back of my car recently. Havn't got a clue how it got there. I either reserved into something and didn't notice or someone drove/hit my car while it was parked. Its a funny sort of dent as it looks like something very sharp has hit the back, no more than about 6mm or so wide. However its made a nice "pit" about 100mm wide to a depth of about 5mm.

My car was in the (Cosham) bodyshop last week for some repairs to the front wing (accident wasn't my fault this time!). I asked for a quote for my dent whilst it was there and they quoted me £250! I assumed that was just becuase they normally deal with insurance companies who don't mind being ripped off.

So, my question is, does anyone know if repairs like this are particularly pricey. Also does anyone know of a good (cheap) bodyshop in Hampshire.

From your description 250 quid doesn't sound too bad.

I recently got quoted £500 for a minute dent, read 1mm, in a door. Needless to say I've still got the dent.

For what its worth I don't rate the cheap dent repairers, such as those you see in B & Q car parks. But that depends on whether you want it to be invisible.

If you get a really cheap and good repair let me know. I need some work doing with a silver colour.

Have a good ring round-if the bodyshop already has your paint code left over from another job you may get it cheaper. A lot of the expense is them having to buy a whole pot of paint.

Call Dent Devils. They repair panels at £28 per dent, if there is no paint damage it should be a very quick procedure.

You might also call the nearest new car dealer(s), and ask who they use. Nobody will buy a new car with a ding in it, so their guys are usually pretty good (and, yes, new cars get these repairs all the time.)

Going rate for such a job in Swansea area is about £50 if you know the right people. That is to knock out what they can - then fill and paint.

I was sceptical about using one of the mobile companys, but used the Portsmouth franchise operator from www.chipsaway.co.uk to do some bits on my rs6 - did a fantastic job and although I cant remember how much he charged, it wasnt much...

Nah, the majority of bodyshops have thier own mixing systems. a freind of mine is a mobile paint/dent repairer and uses a mixing system to the original manufacturers codes.

The normal price for a dent like this is around £120

I had one done by dentex in north baddesley, can't even tell it was there: about £60 per panel.

There doesnt apear to be any damage to the paint....
I'll try some of the names here and see where it gets me. Many thanks for the suggestions

It's mainly kids getting in the back doors that are the biggest culprits, they just fling the doors open.

Sadly I'm on first name terms with the guy who does my dents - generally as long as the dent is away from the very edges of the panel and door locks etc where the panel is double skinned they can get em out. From my experience chips away are a bit expensive... but that may just have been the guy that does my area, the chap I use now I bumped into in a peugeot dealer - he now does all my jobs for cash

yeah i noticed he played the "rs6" bit down a bit, the car is a weapon! - is it the same one as in layercake?!? the estate one? - the new one coming out is a bi turbo monster too - 5.silly litres or something
