Celtic Challenge Long Boat Race 2012

Some of you may be aware of 'The Celtic Challenge' (?) a long boat race across the Irish sea.....more details here: Celtic Challenge 2012

We are unable to provide any assistance (RIB /support) this year due to other commitments, but suggested to one of the local clubs who approached us that I might post up their requirements here, in case anyone was available to assist /was interested in the challenge.....Below is an extract of their (Aberporth rowing club) current position:

"We have a 33ft yacht as a support boat, this is slightly too small as the requirement is that all 12 rowers, as well as crew, have to be able to fit on board in case of emergency. One way we can do it is to have another 30ft (plus) boat. The other alternative is one big boat which would need to be around 38ft. There would be 7 rowers on board at a time with the other five in the rowing boat, alternating every hour or so.

The other requirement is a safety boat to do the crew changes, this would ideally be somewhere around 5-6 metres.

All accomodation costs would be covered by us as well as the ferry crossing and fuel. The date for the 2012 Celtic challenge is the May day long weekend, 4th 5th & 6th 7th May. Generally the race goes on the Saturday afternoon around 2-4pm, if the weather does not look good then it would go on the Sunday. Depending on sea conditions the time taken for the crossing could be 16 - 20 hours"

If this sounds of interest to anyone, drop me a PM and I'll pass on the contact details.......

Dan

Interesting.

Dan,

I have a 6.3 meter northcraft. This year we supported 6 swimmers who swam from The Isle of Eigg to Muck.

I'd be interested in this and also have a cottage net Caernarfon.

Can you pass my details on?

Regards,

David
