Caravans

OK I vowed never to become a caravan owner however after having some really nice camping sessions in Cornwall I am now thinking again. Combined with the idea of storing the caravan down on a site in Salcombe so I don't have to tow the fecker across the country

I have mainly been inspired after staying in a friends 6 berth twin axle carvan that wa sa monster I think it was a Hobby 650. However it was spacious and there was a proper twin single bedroonm at the end for the kids (essential!)

I have had a scan on ebay and found a couple of potentials at the budget of £4000 max.

Favourite at the moment is a Hobby Exclusive and I was wondering what anyone in the know has to say about them.

Chris

I have a feeling you cannot tow a Hobby with a normal 4x4 legally due to the width of them, you have to tow with a commercial vehicle so pick-up or van.

That isn't the case any longer, as following a recent change in the rools, caravans up to 2.50m wide can now be towed by vehicles <3500kg MAM.

However, the Hobby 650 is too long, so for this model, a vehicle > 3500kg is required.

They're very nice. Good quality throughout, but the showers are small (if that's important to you)
Also take a look at Tabbert, Fendt and LMC, which are all of a similar standard.

willk could surely contribute to this thread.

I don't think the Hobby Exclusive is a 650 although I did see a couple for sale.

Should be all right to tow behind the disco then, the only tow would be to get it down to Cornwall area, I have found quite a few good places that store caravans at £30 per month which seems pretty reasonable. The Higher Rew Campsite in Salcombe can store and deliver to the pitch if you call ahead. Seems like a nice easy way to do it.

I surely could, to be sure, but as I am of the Clarkson School of Thought as regards 'vans and you're scoping outboards for me, I thought I'd bag it and keep walking...

'650' relates to the body size, while 'Exclusive' is a standard of finish, so perhaps you saw a smaller 'Exclusive' model, eg a 560, which is inside the length restriction for legally being towed by a vehicle < 3500kg

but as DHD alluded to, best check with any parks your considering that they will take a Hobby, or a Weipert or a Tabbert. Those larger van's do ring alarm bells in respect of commercial vehicles and non holidaying occupants. I was speaking to a Dutch guy today who told me a lot of French parks won't take any twin axle vans.

Hobbies tend to get nicked more than other models because Pikeys love em (sorry Dave) don't rush have a look at Bailey and swift models they make them with similar layouts also Luner do as well. Go to a dealer, this time of year you should get a good deal and also a reasonable guarantee.
