Bosch Dishwasher recall (fire risk)

FYI

There are almost half a million Bosch/Siemens/Neff dishwashers adrift in the UK and Ireland that remain untraced after a recall to address a potential fire risk. Over 260 fires have occurred, damaging kitchens and houses. The recall was in 2011 but I've just heard about it. Apparently nearly half a million others hadn't either! Affected machines were sold from 1999-2005.

I was rather startled today to discover that one of them is mine! I BET someone else on here has one too.

London Fire Brigade have run some tests on domestic fridges recently and the results show they are extremely flammable!

The phasing out of CFC fridges means their replacements are blown with Pentane which is uber flammable!

Hmmm, interesting. I fitted one of those for Mrs Erin's grandparents a few years back. Better get it checked, don't want the inheritance (or granny) to go up in smoke.

Currently 'running' a Smeg D/W. No danger of it catching fire or cleaning a dish. Useless pile of sh**e!

Was gonna look into a Botch next. Not buy one, just look into one.

Bosch are saying that the problem is caused by fluctuations in the power supply in the national grid causing a solder connection in the control panel to overheat.

The problem didn't start happening until 2010.

I have a Bosch dishwasher one but not one of the affected models.

Yep, We got a recall letter 11 months after coming home to find ours full of smoke! circuitboard all burnt out. /it was out of warranty is just skipped it.

Now, despite it's latent potential to, um, flare up, in it's defense I have to say that it has been run daily for, oh, a decade or so and hasn't given ANY trouble. I'll be getting mine sorted shortly but won't run it "unattended" until then, just in case!

I expect the problem was that they were designed to run on yer sensible hardworking German electricity that doesn't lie down for Tiffin

Bosch engineer came to ours last week to mend a broken dish washer cutlery tray. When done, he gets this gizmo out which he plugs in all around the kitchen and scribbles readings into his laptop.

"Every visit I make got to record mains voltage, mate". Asked him why .. he just smiled and didn't answer.

I have two dishwashers both 13 years old and apart from the occassional campfire have so far proved to be fairly un-inflammable! Their pocketmoney however does seem to be costing more annually...

Last dishwasher, A Dietrich, apparently had Bosch internals, bloody thing only lasted a quarter of a century. Thought about asking for me money back

Got an uber posh Miele now which I have to say does a cracking job

Guess things have moved on since the dark ages

Just installed a Seimens dishwasher this year. Surprised at Bosch kit going t*ts up... normally their products are excellent. Cheers for the heads up anyway.

As per Willks post, I think you'll find that Siemens and Neff are basically Bosch under the skin.

Signing off on this one: I called Bosch Ireland and they confirmed that my unit was indeed part of the batch subject to recall in the UK. However, they're not being recalled here, as the "problem only exists in the UK". Bad lekkie, apparently

Well if the granny goes up in smoke the inheritance comes sooner!

That will be me then! Had a Bosch repairman in a few weeks ago to fix the tumble drier - would have thought he might have mentioned it...

Theres not a knob , button or flange those guys dont have, and much to my wifes annoyance, Ive kept our tumbledrier alive on life support for years through them for pennies too

It was the main board, which is mucho ££££. I discovered that I could buy a 12 month all inclusive service plan for less than the cost of the part. Nice to have a little win off an insurance company just once in a while
