Boat Renaming

This has probably been covered a million times, but I'm not keen on upsetting our friend King Neptune.

I've seen a new boat, but the name has been changed.

1. Can I change the name back to the original or does this upset Neptune double?

2. As I'm not sure if a proper re-naming ceremony was performed, can I now perform the ceremony as if changing the name now?

Sounds like a good reason to drink champagne.

Cheers Ian.

Read this, but it doesn't really answer the question/s.

It deals with changing, but only if it hasn't been renamed already.

Not sure why but I am being a bit daft about this!!!

There must be a reason why boaties have a 'legend' about it......

I just hoped it would work a second time. If poseidon has forgotten all about it from the first renaming hopefully it would work. Point 2 - hmmm harder but as long as he forget he forgets - maybe double the champagne quantity?

commercial vessels are re named all the time. i have always believed that to re name was to bring bad luck - but now i am of the belief that if a boat has a new owner, been refitted or changed its use then its fine to re name without incurring the wrath of the gods.

Change a boat name is unlucky
Having green on a boat is unlucky
Say 'Rabbit' on a boat is unlucky
Women on boats is unlucky, yes that's another one

All of the above are made up by old seamen talking bollocks after drinking too much rum.

Adds to the colour of the tapestry.

I agree to all the above, but I make sure I'm at anchor or at the dock before I let a woman on board. I took me first wife on a crossing and hit a huge flecking gale wit seas taking out my pilot house glass and shearing antennas.

Cheers, Squid
