She wasnt small

Codprawn, from your initial web address, it says that it sunk due to taking water in a hole in its side.
Does it not sound od that it had a hole in its side, and if not able to take such seas, what was it doing out there.
Also there will be a lot of containers floating about down there, I suppose there will be a shipping warning.

It strikes me as odd that this is accepted as normal. Who is to blame?

As usual, the media weren't entirely accurate.

From the mcga website:

"The MCAs Emergency Towing Vessel, Anglian Princess and a French tug are on scene. A French salvage team is being transferred onto the MSC Napoli by helicopter and will assess the stability and integrity of the vessel to decide if the vessel can be towed. The current plan is to tow the vessel to a port and discharge the cargo ashore. The vessel is carrying 2,394 containers, a small proportion of these are believed to contain insecticides and pesticides."

In this day and age. No one is to blame for anything.

Final(?) tally for the day today was one panel down on one side of our garden and 3 down on the other.

I refused to work-they wanted me to take a 15'6" tall curtainsider out. An identical one of theirs got blown over on the M1 today and they were still trying to get us to drive them.

This was what faced me when I went to check on my boat (taken on my phone so excuse the crap quality)

Boat's ok though

Is the the first time you would have "got blown" on the M1. I thought that there were sufficient prossionals all along the Hiways.

Codders, I told you this Blow was on the way the other night, time to get ear muffs....

We get to sample them first.. some guy got plankd (literally, blown off work site hear today, dont know if he was killed or just hut, poor chap)

Yep, we have been having strong winds F6+ now for over 6 weeks until yesterday when the wind stopped and 4'' of snow fell in two hours , today is a fine day again with another gale on the way!!!

Great pics. Shows just what the press are like though - doesn't look very sunk to me!!!

Hull looks well and truly snapped - worrying on a modern ship - Jap build quality eh???

Says a Frech tug is also assisting - wonder if it's the one off youtube I posted a while ago?

Seems like a funny place to tow a massive boat like that.

Sorry to read what you have been going through with number of fatalities, this type of wind speed we get rather regularly over here, but one thing for sure our bushes.... sorry TREES will not break nor fall down but often even in summer caravans blow away whole towing beside mountains even boat like happen to me last year as I was towing a SAR rib north for delivery..... 6 o´clock Saturday morning and no traffic so no help at all......

Wish you will be having better weather soon, perhaps like have here at the moment, no wind, clear skies, sunshine and some -12 degrees here south and almost -29 degrees up north and not to mention heck loads of snow

Bogi

We get such winds here in Wales all the time as well Bo - usually higher than elsewhere becuase of the funnel between Ireland and Cornwall - we don't get much damage either - I haven't seen a single tree down - just a few branches off. It's only when the South of England or the East coast gets the storms do you get real havoc. There aren't many trees on the exposed West coast to worry about - and the ones that do grow all go sideways!!!

Seems like that in the South of England you get some real old large trees that don't often see bad weather in some pretty poor soil. When the bad weather comes then nature takes its toll.

That sounds ominous.

Lyme bay=deep and off major shipping routes.

According to sources on another forum, the two french tugs are currently beaching the container ship in Lyme Bay.

That will be pretty close in - even with a 40' draft. Under ballast of course she will draw a lot more. Wonder how long it will be stuck there? Bet the environmentalists will love it!!!
