I really like keeping the Koi, but was very labour intensive with the water quality and filters etc. I even ended up buying a shed to house all the gear and a quarantine tank too.

I do miss not having a pond! I'm sure I'll get digging soon, but not a Koi pond as I had previously. A nice nature pond will be nice.

Keeping up the Oriental theme, it has to be said that you lads are mere amateurs, clock this:

http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...265504158.html

Family expected to make 200-300 quid on a box of old vases and got €150,000.

nice

Yes - lots of hassle to get the water quality good, I ended up with a Nexus which was fantastic, easy to clean and only required attention once a week in general.I had a big Chagoi that would eat out of my hand and suck on my finger if he thought there was some food to be had!

Random Koi question

Sorry to bugger up Nashers thread, but at the Jade Buddha temple in Shanghai they've got the biggest Koi i've ever seen....They reckon it's over 100 years old (120 ish IIRC)....can that be right?

Hadn't though about it for a while (weird what kicks around in my head), but it bugged me a little at the time...meant to look it up when I got home

Hi Dan,

the oldest on record was 226 i think.

you can age them by counting the rings on a scale, just like a tree
