its just awfull, they are fowl people, i think last year someone put a similar video of the chinese doing the same, exept it showed mother and calf being dragged along the main road behind a pick up truck alive whilst the crowds were cheering, :mad ,its utterly disgusting

Why the hell Denmark stands by and lets this happen is beyond me. The International whaling Commission say they can do nothing as they are only small pilot whales.

They kill about 1,000 a year of these whales in this way because it's part of their culture.

At least the Japs use more humane methods and will eat what they catch.

And where are Greenpeace when you need them? They are scum as well......

Boycotts on Denmark are required - no more Danish bacon - and I REALLY mean that!!!

I suppose my first reaction was the same as most - revulsion - but how many of us have been inside a UK abbatoir? It's not pretty and it's damn sure not humane either - animals hauled hundreds of miles in lorries - herded into factories and (generally) stunned before being bled to death.

Life in the Faroes was fairly tight until recently and people had to make the best of it. They'll change with time - their supermarkets are better stocked than Tesco.

Codprawn, I'm surprised at you! If Sheep Coursing was under threat by a bunch of euroweenies - you'd be the first to defend it against interference and regulation.

I am NOT against doing this for food as such - it's the glorying in the killing for social/cultural reasons I object to.

Last point is not true .. Bleeding to death is only for a Kosher kill, and not general practice.

IRRC all others are humane (depends on your degree of the word ofcourse) captive bolt for large stock or electrocution across the eyes for sheep, pigs etc. and death is supposedly instantaneous.

Also There are very strict controls also for the transport of stock which by and large are well catered for.

Only for certain types of ethnic meat production, usually electric or captive bolt ou right kill.

Abbatoirs aren't what they were a few years ago - very tightly regulated, a government vet on site as well as government inspectors inside the plant ensuring all is well.

However the opening post is right - it is just wrong to kill for no reason other than tradition.
