Autumnal Equinox 2014

Is tonight. It's a bitter-sweet time of the year, IMO. It reminds me of Ecclesiastes 3:2

Now is the time that I stop and think about what I did this season past - did I do the things I said I would? Was the weather kind? Should I begin preparing for the Winter? What will IT bring? What should I do next year?

For now I'm enjoying the beautiful Indian Summer I have been sent. Warm days and cool nights, already crispy dead leaves falling on still growing grass. Apples building up in my shed, last year's cider ageing and developing in the cold under the same shed's back stairs - company for Winter nights.

No matter the weather, next year will be odd. The stalwart donegaldan will be snowed under in Antarctica for all of 2015. What sort of auld campaigning will I manage on me tod? Time will tell...

What about yourselves? Did you get it done? What's next?

Yes the nights are creeping in!! Unfortunately I did not achieve all this year as I had a few issues with the lump. That said it was a great summer which started with a great wend at ERR and just got better. Rib is in its winter home and I have started the usual winter to do list and whilist I do that I am planning for next year./ It will be sad not to see dan for a year but Jesus he is of on a great adventure, hope he has a great experience and remains safe at all times. September has been great thought eh??

Well I learned a lot about RIBs and gained some valuable experience. Still need to get to France and back before the end of the year.

There are still a few jobs that I need to finish on the boat before December, so Id better stop posting on here and get on with them.

I assume that was rhetorical.

For those confused, Indian Summer refers to a very warm, dry period, generally in Sept/Oct/Nov. Comes after the "normal" summer, and shows up after what seems like a normal fall cooldown.

Okay, so poking around on Wiki shows that you East Atlantic folks *do* have Indian Summer, at least in familiarity, if nothing else:

[Wikipedia]: In British English the term "Indian summer" is today used loosely for a period of unseasonable warmth and sunshine in late September, October, or November. In the UK, observers knew of the American usage from the mid-19th century onwards, and The Indian Summer of a Forsyte is the metaphorical title of the 1918 second volume of The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy. 20th century climatologists including Gordon Manley and Hubert Lamb used it only when referring to the American phenomenon, and the expression did not gain wide currency in Britain until the 1950s. [end Wikipedia]

I learn something new every day.

Work, cut grass, work, a family wedding which somehow went on for weeks, work.

I've managed to miss the best summer in years, even tallships!

I seriously need to address my work/life balance and either get a gardener or sell the f'kin place.
