i watched a show called "mega ships" or something like that today. they were showing this design called a SWATH. at first glance it appears to be a giant catamaran except there are two submarine shaped structures 8ft under water giving the ship bouency. much of that bobbing around is reduced since most of the wave action is directly on the surface. seemed to work great and stabilize the research ship in heavy seas. strange looking though.

i might just slap a couple water heaters under my rib with 2x4's and some heavy duty duct tape
