Ventnor - Sunday 21 March for lunch

With high tide at Ventnor at 2.00pm and with clear weather currently forecast (although with something of a westerly wind!) does anyone feel adventurous with a view to meeting in Yarmouth on Sunday and lunching at The Spyglass in Ventnor for a change?

David

Halfway through PB2 - day one completed. - At the moment we are planning on being in Yarmouth anyway Saturday night, sleeping on another boat though!

So, it's a possible for us.

Will follow the thread with interest.

Hi David

There is a possibility of bringing the Parker from Southampton back to her new berth in Poole on the Sunday. I was thinking of stopping at Yarmouth for lunch, but now you have got me thinking ......
If we come out on the Sunday, it would be better for us to go East about and meet you all at Ventnor. Would like to be there for about 12, as some friends need to be back at Poole 1430ish.

Hi Steve

From speaking to DizzyLizzy on Wednesday, he and a couple of others are also coming from Southampton/Hamble direction and an Eastward trip might make more sense with the forecast Westerly wind. That would mean a RV off Cowes at, say, 11.00am to get to Ventnor for midday. If NautiSeacrets is still interested, I'll be passing Yarmouth at about 10.30am and can RV with him there.

I've also just checked the tide times: HT Ventnor on Sunday is 14.49. Not sure where I got 2.00pm from! Harbour depth should still be OK for midday.

if the forecast holds it should be lovely. we are both hold up with stinking colds at the moment so think some brisk cold air is not the best idea for us! shame cos we really want to do a round the island soon!

If we do go out on Sunday, I may have a few spare seats if anyone would like a ride out.
Just be awate that it would be a one way trip, Southampton to Poole Quay, via Ventnor.

PM for details
Steve

Hi Dave - I'm still waiting to confirm that I have any crew - but at the moment the plan to meet off Cowes at about 11 seems a sound one. I'm not sure as yet if Stormbreaker and Ocean Devil are still on for Sunday - but if they are, they will be starting from the same drystack as 250kts.
Note to self - must fix the small leak in my waders tonight. Llast week I spent all Sunday with a wet right foot!

I would love to make this, but, I am told, my younger one and rugby practice take precedence.

clockwise or anticlockwise?

Hi Dave and all

Today is jobs and tomorrow is boating
Trevor - you would be welcome on board Storm Breaker if you have a crew shortage or not.

If the winds are Westerly would you propose getting to ventnor going clockwise or anti. I will review the tidal stream as avoiding wind over tide may make things smoother. will post details shortley

If the "fleet" is going clockwise, what time for a meet up off Cowes?

That was my thinking: my initial calculation of the tide times was right and it is 13.59 at Ventnor. (The IoW websites give 40 mins later). Circumnavigation is therefore clockwise.

That being the case: DizzyLizzy, 250knots and Paul have confirmed a RV off Cowes for 11.00am. Timings may vary slightly but I'm aiming to be off Ashlett Creek at 11.00am and will be on 72 monitoring 16 - so call Grimalkin up!

NautiSeacrets: if you want to come as crew or accompany in boat please post. I'll be going past Yarmouth with no crew at 10.30am (possibly, but not necessarily, stopping for fuel)
