Interesting, having done open sea >>> chiswick twice i've never really seen anywhere "official" to stop. 'course i've tied up a few "unofficial" looking places but never come accross any of these you mention. Very keen to join you... what's the date to be?

Chaps ..... Theres not much at Canary wharf close enough to the river to make it a viable stopping point for lunch, there's no where to moore (unless you intend to pay and arrange entry to the locked basin)

OK, here's the places that I know for sure are good places to stop for lunch or whatever...and I've been to them all a number of times and know the procedure.

Starting from the East:

Greenwhich Yacht Club pontoon - Clubhouse, must be pre-booked

Butlers Wharf - Pre Book visitors Mooring...Loads of Pubs, Bars and Restaurants by Tower Bridge

St. Katherines Dock - Outside Pontoon, all the pubs and restaurants of St. Katherines Dock

Westminster Boating Base - Westminster and Pimlico bars and retaurants

Cadagon Pier - Many great pubs and Bars in Chelsea

Chelsea Harbour Pier - Bars and Pubs in Chelea Harbour

Riverside Quarter Pier (not low tide) Great Pub and restaurants in Wandsworth

Hurlingham Yacht Club jetty (not low tide) Friendly club to visitors with bar

Putney Pier - Great Pubs and restaurants by the boathouses

Dove Pier - The Dove Pub, Hammersmith

Chiswick Pier - Pissaro's restaurant/bar

After Richmond Lock plenty of places to tie up on the river bank.

I know all the people who run these places and have the phone numbers to make pre-bookings. My only concern would be the number of Ribs turning up, but suppose rafting wouldn't be a problem.

...Daniel, pm me for further information on all these places and who to contact if you come up the river often.

We did this trip last Bank Holiday, was great fun and different to what we would normally do. We launched from River Lane in Petersham. The slip was a bit cluttered with branches and rubbish but the parking is plentiful and free.

We learnt:

It's great fun and manically busy

You will have never seen the sights from this perspective

Above Wandsworth bridge the limit is 8 knots, but this speed still generates too much wash for the rowers.

There are no petrol outlets.

Do not anchor too close to the bank downstream of the Thames Barrier as the locals like to play 'let's throw stones at the rib' games.

Get VHF permission to transit the barrier.

Builders polythene sheets stop outboards dead, make sure your anchor is available

Have a great day out and let the thread know what date you have confirmed, perhaps we will do it again

Doug

Have you ever been on the River????

I have been using 2 places, legitimately for over 2 years now right next to the Zizzi Bar, Jamies Bar, and some posh Chinese place. Also upstream next to Limehouse basin are some steps that I telephone BW and they are happy for me to use.

We would possibly like to join, subject to timings - presume launch and recovery at Putney ...
