Lake Lugano which also goes into Italy is a fantastic lake. It has great views, pretty good weather in the summer and allows you to visit a city, Lugano, small towns and villages. You could stay in classic hotels, self catering villas or apartments or camp. There is a small town on the Italian leg of the lake with both good self catering places and a good campsite with space for boats. It is called Porlezza. Plenty of fishing and other water sports and also other things to do in the area. Visiting the Balcone D'Italia will allow you to see the whole lake in its entirety
