Shame on the farming folk of SE Wales that they haven't suitably sanitised the countryside for the Comfort and Convenience of visitors with delicate sensibilities. What other horrors lie in wait for The Unsuspecting? Cows mooing at Antisocial Hours? Nettle patches in clear contravention of the Health & Safety Act? Oh! I bet there's Mice! There's mice, Knot Yet, aren't there?

Putting the rats and two headed sheep aside a quick update re the Pembrokeshire trip.

An update from the Sailing Club as follows:

There are no planned 'restriction of use' of the slipway for the May Bank Holiday. The Yacht Club (lease holders of the slip) occasionally restricts access when there is sailing event or similar to manage the safety of all users.

As you are aware the weekend you are here will be quite busy so there will be pressure on the use of the slip. But with co-operation all round there should be no problem about launching.

The pontoon should be in place and will again be very busy; can I suggest you raft up several a-breast to help with the congestion!

Moorings are all private and we are prohibited from renting them out by the Port Authority. However, closer to the time I would know about vacant moorings and could give you their owners contact phone numbers, then it would be up to you to make contact and ask etc.

There may be only a few possible!

There is the 'floating' or visitors pontoon out in the moorings that could take several RIBs if the weather is gentle. Also many people leave RIBs on the pontoon (the one attached to the land) overnight and when we had film crews here, they were rafted out. At the Bank Holiday weekend I believe the tides are such that the end of shore-attached pontoon will be dry on Saturday, but will have more water as the weekend progresses.

However, there could be a problem with the trailers. They should not be parked in the car park or on the beach. The parking restrictions are changing this year and enforcement is to be stepped up.

Okay so what does this mean for us.

1. I'll check re moorings nearer the time
2. We will probably need to leave trailers up at the Farm and shuttle people down in one or two vehicles

Alternatively - if people have suggestions re other launch sites thats fine - I did wonder about Gelliswick and the Club suggested it as a possible alternative for consideration

http://www.pembsyachtclub.org.uk/

I'm seeing Sharon (campsite owner) on the 10th April and we currently have 4 Ribnetters confirmed plus myself and Darren and I think for that number life should be pretty straight forward - so if anyone else is thinking of joining us please let me know ASAP.

TQ

Hi Jean,

I want to be there... probably with the SR, and there's a good chance of me making it as I'll be in UK the entire preceeding week to get a new passport fasttracked.

been on both your boats, with Neil's as said had a look round and price, well i think your bits will ruin the best part of a day, i'll pm you later, KY's, i've done the fuel lines and cut/polished the steel for the bracket, got to weld it up, i'll pm you also, i'll have them done this week as i'm down in portland doing the yacht racing chater stuff for 4 days starting sunday the 4th, i'll be off by boat either saturday night or early sunday.
the chances are you'll be wanting to use them over the easter break

That's great - thanks Biff - we can pick up after Easter so no worries to rush beforehand if it helps - otherwise more than happy to collect next week

Hi all

I did a practice run for you this weekend! I had a late opportunity to gatecrash someone elses weekend and made the most of it. We went waterskiing and wakeboarding on Saturday and cruising out to Skomer on Sunday. The skiing etc was good fun but the water was a bit fresh to say the least. The cruise was excellent, we saw literally thousands of Puffins rafted in the bays of Skomer, porpoises at the end of Jack Sound and seals around Rye Rocks.
Logistically I launched at Gelliswick and left the boat in the marina at Neyland overnight for a princely sum of £13.95.
Personally I avoid Dale for launch and recovery because it is simply too manic with poor access to the slip, on a bank holiday I wish you the best of luck. I am not talking Dale down, it is a great place to come in against the jetty and a great place to camp, have a beer etc but the slip is tight and congested. If i was camping with you I would either get up at stupid O clock on the days you want to launch and recover before the crowds arrive or go somewhere like Gelliswick or Neyland where there is more room.
I hope to join you on at least one of the days so look forward to hearing about your plans as you get closer to the time.
If you have any questions about boating in the area let me know and I will do my best.

Sounds like a good weekend, woot.

Puffins must have only just arrived.

PS
Agree with all woot says about launching/recovering at Dale. I usuallly opt for the public slip at Neyland (FOC), or Lawrenny Yacht Station (£8.00 charge) for all round convenience.

Woot - thanks so much - that's really helpful

Just to make it really clear to all - I KNOW NOTHING - we were planning on taking our RIB up to Dale at the Bank Holiday and so I thought I would open it up to all, but please don't think I know anything about RIBs or the waters around the Pembrokeshire Coast - as I don't and will be looking at the more experienced amongst us to take direction from.

So with regard suitability of launch sites etc am more than happy to use Gelliswick and mooring over night sounds a good plan.

Woot if you are free over the weekend I would really welcome your guidance and advice - no worries if not - and whilst I know that some of the RIBnetters attending are incredibly well qualified re RIBs I'm not sure any of use know the Milford/Skomer water.

So just to be clear - any help would be much appreciated and for all those attending please do be understanding of me not being able to answer a single question - oh and of course if its even slightly rough I won't get any of my family of terrafirma

You do all realise that anything RIB related involving the Rolfe's usually is anything but straightforward - so welcome to Jean's World
