Absolutely.
The Scillies are a fair way off shore in an exposed corner of the Northern Atlantic. Also, they sit on a shallow shelf. If there's sea running from pretty most any direction, it piles up when it hits the shallower waters which can make the final approach to the islands hairy.
The non-local guys (Jim,DHD, Maxi) that have been over on the trips that I've joined, have all arrived at short notice.
If you're gonna pick a date, I'd go for May/June and keep a close eye on the weather charts at the time, you may well be lucky.

It may be better for the trailered ribs to travel down further on the Thursday and stay overnight before launching Friday morning. This way would be better for the smaller ribs and a bit more easier on fuel. I'm completely open to suggestions on this as well as any ideas for camping, launching and parking.
The larger boats cruising all the way will still leave on a thursday, stopping for one night in Plymouth and then make the run to the Isles of Scilly on the Friday rendez-vousing with the trailered ribs on route.
As for dates all I can say is it will be in a good weather window probably in the second quarter next year and before the round Ireland event. So I will plan to get my rib and trailer ready for no later than the 1st April 2013.
But as I say I am always open to suggestions and more than welcome any local knowledge and experience

Yeah, I'm still up for this for sure
I'll be launching from Penzance in something small and jumpy 
But having said this, this cruise is one of the hardest to plan for, it's a case of the weathers good so lets go

This cruise sounds very interesting but due to uncertain weather conditions rather risky to undertake. On top of which one would have to tow a fair distance and not everybody can tow.
Some 10 years ago I participated in a cruise to St. Malo via Alderney for refuelling. Overnight stay in St. Malo good food and vine and the next day an easy cruise to Iles Chausey and from there to St. Helier Jersey again for a good meal , beer and overnight stay. The following day home via Alderney.
The cruise was organised by Rib International and to my knowledge has never been repeated.
Perhaps more would favour St. Malo above the Isles of Scilly. Just a thought but worth considering.
