I reckon tents merit a new thread, so I've copied the posts over to Ribs and Ribbing here:-

Got a news letter from the Bryher Campsite today so I thought I would share it...

THE SUMMER OF GOOD WEATHER AND THE TOKENS!

It is the time of year to start thinking about summer 2014. The price for next year will be £10.25 per person per night and no charge for under 4ís, if you wish to make a booking could you confirm your dates and numbers with a deposit of £30.00 per person per week. The deposit can be paid by BACS, Sort Code ******, A/C Number ********, or debit card or cheque. I am attaching the usual booking form for completion to be returned with the deposit. All the general information, including useful telephone numbers etc are now on the website: Bryher Campsite - Bryher, Isles of Scilly

Iím trying a new system, so apologies if you receive this more than once! Blow technology I will just go back to my red book next year!

What an amazing summer, most weeks six good days and one bad day, instead of six bad days and one good day, just like the summers we all remember. After six bad summers I am now hoping for five more good ones.

By the end of August we managed to get on top of the tokens, so next year they wonít be as rare as henís teeth. Some of you should be ready for next year as there are still 200 in circulation, and although I pay £1.35 for each one, I am not sure that they would be counted as legitimate currency on the mainland. The general feed back was that the showers were a great improvement, if you could get the tokens, and you werenít here when we blew a mains fuse in the electricity supply, (The electrician at fault here). Since we have had the showers metered we continue to save water.

After the lovely summer the weather went downhill quite fast, from the middle of September we were blighted by fog and rain. The forecasted bad weather of the week-end of the 26th October, was a bit of a damp squib here. For those of you who have been here in a gale, you probably experienced it worse than what happened that week-end. If bad weather is forecast to hit the South East, it always manages to make headline news, but nothing about our gale on the following Saturday which was far worse.

Three babies have been born on Bryher this year two girls and one boy, which is good news for our community. A lot of you will remember Johnny (Pots) Pender, who passed away in July.

Hell Bay Hotel has won a Gold |Award for Best Small Hotel for 2013, and Kris and her fudge got nominated in the Cornwall Best food product in the South West.

Ginny Hulands who some of you may know from the Inclusive Holiday office,
and Amy Langdon, climbed Kilimanjaro in September and raised over £8000.00 for the Cornwall Air Ambulance. Listening to them didnít make me want to do it!

All three houses that were for sale last winter have all been sold, but if you are looking for a business opportunity South Hill on Bryher is for sale, I think it is two self catering properties and a family house.

The Community Centre is now all paid for, so we will start fund raising so we can install heating, and various other projects that we had put on one side until we had paid for the building. Thanks to all of you who have donated money, paintings for raffle prizes, and also run stalls at our Fete over the years. We raised £7.300.00 this year which is an amazing sum of money. The Fete next year is on Sunday 10 August.

There doesnít at the moment appear to be any major building works, other than the roads. They are hoping to concrete the un-made roads by next summer. Over the last forty years the roads where all done by the men of the island, and the women just provided tea and cakes, how quaint!

Ginny and I have been working on the website, and if anyone has any photographs of the campsite that gives a personal feel, or comments and you donít mind them being published I would love to use them. Also any comments about the site it self that we could improve.

Best wishes

Kathy
