Andy and I have finally got our act together and should be with you first thing on Saturday morning, just a slight problem with a few loose screws (didn't everyone already know ) but with some considerable help from Ged we should be there.

On a non-helmet, non-raffle related note....

Is anyone towing up from london? If so which way are you going and when are you leaving?

Re: Towing

Convoy sounds like a plan, we'd be leaving central london sometime after 12. Hugh, where are you going from? Anyone else leaving from london/south east?

if we plan the rough route we can pick folks up on the way if they like, might be a bit more fun on a long journey than travelling alone

we are looking to travel back sunday evening will drop you a pm to see if we can move some arrangements forwards

any views on heading west to pwilly from shrewsbury, seems to knock a good chunk of miles off and as we can only tow at 50-60 it might be a good alternative, anyone done that route recently? this is as opposed to going right to the north of wales and along the top and down!!

My family live in Pwllhelli, and I use that route all the time when visiting, i.e. not towing anything. The Telford, Shrewsbury, Welshpool, Dolgellau, and Portmadog route is the best route for cutting distance, but after Shrewsbury it goes to single lanes routes with a lot of twist and turns, with hair pin turns, hill climbs and descents, and narrow at times, which I'm personally avoiding with a RIB on the back. I am driving up on Wednesday going the long route M25, M40, M42 South(Misses Tolls) ,M6, M56, A550, A55, A487, and the A499, quite flat and with mostly motorway/dual carriageway and no real sharp turns. The only hills are in the last 18 miles crossing the Llyn penisula.

The last part of the Dolgellau to Portmadog route is very steep which lasts for 5 to 6 miles, first gear job unless you have a big lump under the bonnet.

I have also modified a map of Pwllheli town centre, and high lighted roads in red that are incompatible with having trailors and the like being towed down due to narrowness and oneway problems and tight corners. I also put Jono's location and the all important supermarket for reference. Link below has the map.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Littlehampton group

We will depart Littlehampton Marina on friday at about 8:30 and will join the M25 at J9 then up the M40 with first tea break at Cherwell Valley service area I estimate we should arrive there about 10:30 traffic permitting. The plan is then to head for the M42 M6T,M54, A5, A483, A55, A487, A499

we had thought of taking the A5 all the way but reading Narcosis's post the above may be the better option

anyone with handheld VHF may I suggest Ch71 should we make up a convoy on route

Happy towing

Just spoke to my father and mentioned that route and its quite good by the sounds of it, so I will probably try that route Andre, mostly dual cariageway, a few roundabouts. I hav'nt used it before as I have always driven the more westerly route. Good idea though, so I'll nick your route then, and if it's hideous I'll post on here Thursday AM (travelling Wednesday).

I have done the route a few times going to Chester but never towing and can recommend it . As you say the worst will be the last bit ie the A499

well looks like we will have some folks travelling up early on friday morning and then some others leaving around 2 or 3 from the london and outlying areas

we are dependant on grandma picking up the kids so we are currently making plans to try to bring that forward as to travel up in a group might be more fun

This will be my first Rib gathering, so what form do the days take, is there a plan i.e. destination, or is it more about ribs flying around in all directions just having fun with no immediate plan, or groups split up to do different things.... can anyone enlighten me? Is it made up as the day goes on?

Does any body want video and photos on the water, if so I have water proof camera's. video and static.

Any info about whats planned would be great to hear.
