1) Your name: Neil
2) Boat name: Vixen
3) Your launching site: Putney
4) Number of people on your boat: 6 before lunch, 5 after lunch
5) Number of people who want a place setting for lunch: 6
6) Roughly how high your A frame is from the water line: 1.6m - will have to check.
I've spoken to the Narrow Street Bar and they are Ok about us, but they'd like to know the numbers sooner rather than later.

The extra numbers wont be a problem.

Chris. I seem to remember reading somewhere not so long ago that if you want to use your boat on the Thames it must have it's names displayed prominantly on the bow. Mine is yet un-named, is this likely to be a problem?

My boat only has a SSR number and the port of registry on display, No body has ever said a word. I think you must have read something refering to the non tidal Thames. Commercial boats on the Thames do have some strange rules, Name, owners number, SSR, all text 5 inches high, clearly displayed.

Chris said he was trying to arrange something regarding parking and to watch this space...so might not be such a problem, will have to wait and see.

In terms of fuel, how much do people think is enough? Boat/engine dependant of course, but a rough idea would help. I reckong it's 17/18 miles from Putney embankment to the barrier, so let's say 40 miles return.

I have not had my rib long enough to calculate fuel consumption, but am reckoning on about 1litre per mile for a 5.4m searider with yammie 90. That said 6 people on board, so maybe more like 1.3 litres/mile to be safe. So based on that, 52 litres should cover it. And I can carry about 100, so should leave some in reserve.

Would we expect to go much further? Any comments on fuel load - enough, don't want to get caught out!!!

Cheers

Neil

Yes your more than welcome to come. I will "up" the numbers at the bar 4 lunch.

DINO - We will be going from Sunbury Cross (Junction 1 on the M3) and heading into town. You will be welcome to follow us into town. But we will be heading in early to reserve parking! (See below - perhaps you can help?) PM for a time to meet up and we can meet in the lay-by after Junction 1. (its before the elevated section going past the waterworks)

NEIL - As far as fuel goes I have a 135 and I don't use more than 50 litres if I take it easy. Perhaps you'd use more with a 2 stroke but I'm not familiar with your engine. The total distance can't be more than 40miles.

TRAILER PARKING - Across the top of the Embankment is an area for towing vehicles and trailers (see the attachment) So I'm gonna try to get there early and "bagsie" the lot. Hopefully its long enough for everybody. If it isn't trailers are normally OK if left in sensible places on the road. Trailers can also be left on the hard of the Embankment but there is nothing to chain your trailer to for security and the tide may partically cover it.

TIDES - (corrected for BST and non standard port at Putney Bridge)
0150 - 6.23m
0722 - 0.89m
1414 - 6.52m
2042 - 1.11m

TIME - Please leave yourself enough time to launch and be ready to leave for 1000

PROBLEMS - Please let me know if you can't make it or break down etc etc. My mobile is 07968 351 721

Some pics of the launching site at Putney taken today as i happened to be working near by.
There seems to be plenty of parking right up at the end of the cul-de-sac road, but is permit holders only before 10.30 am

Thanks Simon,

I've been meaning to get down there this week to double check things. If you look on the fifth photo, with the road on the right hand side of the water, there is "parking for trailers and towing vehicles" all the way down there. I am hoping to reserve the lot by getting down there early. The end of the culdesac I am aware its permit holders only and this is going to be a last resort if all else fails.

Chris

Do you mean the 4th pic above?
The parking on the right hand side infront of the rowing clubs?
The sign in the attached photo below is governing this parking. Does this mean only towing vehicles with trailers can park here between mon-fri between 9.30-10.30 am?
Seems daft!
So is there no restrictions on saturday?
Parking in these bays will be blocking the entrances to the rowing clubs?
Have you parked in these bays before?

Yes
Yes
Yes I think so
Yes it is daft
That my understanding
Yes if you park your trailer in a stupid place it will block the rowing club so we'll need to be careful
Nope. I tend to leave the trailer at Chas Newens on the double yellows and park the car at the top of the road near the park. Never had any problems!

I think this last option isn't really sensible for 12 trailers so that's why I was suggesting the trailer bay.

Sorry Chris, but I can't make it now, unavoidable sadly.

Might come out for first leg on Sat morning, and I'll be out Sat evening on the river if any stragglers left buzzing around
