I must admit I didn't know about that cafe. Is it near the old church wall as you enter Bembridge.
Yeah its by that weird stone tower thingy and the carpark. You could just walk from priory...would take about 10mins as a little bit of rock clambering would be invloved.

I don't think the Baywatch Cafe opens until 0930.

You could always stroll to the west from Priory Bay, through Sandgrove Bay and pop into the cafe next to The Old Fort on the front in Seaview. An excellent brekie and a pleasant walk too.

Smoke on the Water

Thanks Slimtimothy!!! Posting too quickly!!! All Ians welcome of course And their tribes and clans also!

Have a dekko at the chart for the extent of Ryde Sands (now forever to be known as Bruce's Bank by the looks of it?) where many a prop has had a little polish! Also for the best approach to Priory Bay. There is a sand bar which needs to be avoided depending on draught & state of tide. It has the advantage of making powercraft slow down as they approach the beach which is always a Good Thing ! Do keep an eye on GPS & depth gadgets!

Nice visuals Nick! Cheers for that! (Didn't realise they had 'Chanel' running off the beach tho'!!!! We always knew the place was special!!! Only jesting)And Tony, nice reminder of a top day out! Ta !!! Leeway be nice to catch up with you & crew next time !

Lofty be great to see ye again! And yes Pete 7 Dood is way too modest but he's helped more people quietly than any of us has had hot dinners

Pete (Ribald) many thanks for the timely reminders and please add any new notices from QHM. Sr. Mary Rose Assumpta of the Holy Sisters of Pompey who used to teach Carly Baby put in his school report that he is a law unto himself but we try to keep him in check. (The ASBO is not working very well).

(mental note to self

might see tc
and lofty & crew also
and Sir Hal Markaday & Vivienne)

Right, Biggles. Food! For brekkie will have some croissants possibly bread, cheese, jam and mebbe tea & coffee if Pierre Sept has his 007 briefcase in hand!
So we will make sure you don't starve anyways. (Ta for addn. info Pete & Tim & Ribald ! The Baywatch cafe & Seaview caff sound tops!!!)

The weather, the weather. And there might be a Plan B if it buckets down!

Kathleen & Paul

not only is this going to be "smoke on the water" but on Sunday morning it will be "smoke in the air" - just heard from a mate of mine at work that the skydive team that he is part of are doing an exhibition jump at Southsea Common at 11.00am on Sunday we will be on the water with camera watching out for chutes & smoke canisters
see you all on the beach

I'm staying overnight in a hotel in Bembridge on Saturday, then we might head around the Isle of Wight (clockwise) on Sunday. Anyone interested? If so MMSI me on Saturday.

'Smoke on the Water'

Pete L that sounds great!

rbw 156 that also sounds wonderful but some peeps have said the weather may be challenging on Sunday so we'll join in if it's clear. By all means pop over to Priory on Sat evening to catch a few of us long-stay folk!

Chris, Debs and family, that's great news. See ye on Saturday!

By the way as it's a birthday!!!there will be loads of the following to go around (for sharing!!!) so please don't waste space on your boats on these items:

BBQs & matches
water
Bread
croissants
salad-type items
smoked salmon bits
sausages
Pimms
glasses (of the plastic/paper variety)
cutlery (ditto)
plates (ditto)
napkins
strawberries
cream
cheese
birthday cake
tea & coffee
milk
marshmallows
crisps
lashings of ginger beer (only jokin...had an Enid Blyton moment)

(And for soggy brekkie on Sunday - some pains au chocolat perhaps!!!)

(mental note:
add Chris, Debs and kiddies
add rbw 156)

Will update again on times etc. and Plan B should the cats and dogs descend from the heavens!!!

Us

I think you will find that there is a bit more water at the Seaview end of Priory bay, which will take around the sand bank, but be aware of the rocks from the headland to starboard. as for Ryde sands, to clear other than at 2+/_high tide you will need to be out by No Mans Fort, there are two poles sticking out of the water one off of Seaview and one Ryde, which depict the edge of the sands. The shallowest part inside these marks, is just before you get to Ryde Pier and close to Ryde Harbour channel All the best Martin
