As far as Guernsey goes, there are other people more knowledgeable than me (I'm Jersey based). However, Victoria Marina is quite a good destination for a first visit, and you shouldn't need to pre book, although that may depend on how many in the flotilla. There are waiting pontoons in the outer harbour if you arrive before the sill is open (they are not conencted to land though). Victoria is close to the town bars/restaurants etc and fuel is available nearby at Boatworks Plus to the south.

Best to leave Alderney somewhere around half tide which is slack water. When ebbing, it will be in your favour on the journey down as well. You should manage it in less than an hour and hopefully catch the sill into the marina
Many thanks - v useful. Here's hoping the weather is on our side!
