We'll leave Swansea on the 23rd at about 10 or 10:30 and head for our stop over of Douglas, weather permitting the idea is to pass through the Menai Strait on the way North. The problem with all of this is the conditions on the day, in an ideal perfect world we would average about 50mph, so we should be there at about 13:30 or 14:00, but of course we won't know until the day!

The map is Here and we will be updating the thread on the trip here

I had read somewhere that the Skerries was a Ahh well, I guess for me that's of the list then

if the wardens are there monitoring the breeding birds, maybe not the best place to camp with all them birds about, could get more than you bargained for

I don't think you will get permission to camp if there are breeding birds

not on that occasion - only been ashore once there and that was only for a couple of mins. there is a stone beach at the south end of the lagoon at LW so went ashore there instead of using the steps.

What about the 8 knots speed restriction on the 1 mile stretch of the straights around Dinorwic - Y Felinheli. (not that anyone would catch ya) Do you need / have permission from the authorities to fly thro, as Ged and DM did some years back during their round the island record attempt.

as far as I know they will only give permission now if it's early am or late pm, neither of which would suit, maybe Mike aka Telcowilliam could find out from the harbour master as they are good buddies don't think the 8knots will be much of an issue in the scheme of things, maybe chance for a quick coffee and mars bar

It's just for 1 mile so I'm not bothered about going through flat out out, we'll get a better chance to take in the view and maybe stop for a chat if we have time?

Are there signs etc? It would be helpful to have the GPS positions of the speed limit beginning and end. If someone could put up the best route into and out of the area that would be helpful as well!

If you're travelling at an average of 50! Perhaps we're best waiting for you in front of the speed restriction Zone by Port Dinorwic! Might get a better look at you at 8 knots, then race (!) you to the bridges.

There are yellow bouys marking the start and finish of the section of the strait.

Good morning,

The speed limit is marked by yellow buoys either side of the speed limit zone, a possible idea is for one or two of us to wait for you a the start of the zone ?.
