Graeme & Sian in 4m Avon Searider with 40 HP Mariner - boat not yet named - launch site depending on weather / meeting with someone else - personally prefer Camber Dock but happy to try anywhere

I'm going to launch at Camber Dock-looks like it'll be around high tide at Warsash to recover and I don't fancy pushing the trailer 50 yards.

I will make the decision now that I will launch from Camber - as my memory is that it is a good slip to use and trailer and car parking are good. Never launched / recovered from a non-rollercoaser trailer before so may be a bit of trial and error. Any idea of approximate launch times? Also, does nayone have ANY idea of how much range I will get from a 22 ltr tank on a 2 stroke Mariner 40? I can buy a second tank before then if necesary.

Graeme

If we join you, we'll launch from the Camber as well.

The slip is quite steep so suits a bunked trailer.

I'll be in the water around 9am if you want a hand, but it's not difficult launching there with bunks.

You'll need a second tank anyway-but definitely if we go round to Ventnor. My SR4 with a 2 stroke 50hp Mariner would use 25 litres to go Warsash-Lightship-Folly and I'd have to change tanks at the mouth of Southampton Water on the way back if thats any help.

Nasher, how much was the parking charge there? Can't remember and it'd be handy to know how much change I'll need.

Based on last year, I have £8 in my head for the car park only....

Maybe

Thinking about putting in an appearance in the 4m but as will have my 7 year old lad with me only coming as far as Cowes.

I'm not convinced I can get to Ventnor and back on 22 litres.

No electrics on the boat at all and I find a handheld VHF a little "quiet" in comparison with a two-stroke a metre away.

Can only make about 26 knots - so for me it's not an "easy 25 knots" trip down to the lightship. 17 or 18 knots is an "easy" speed for me.

I'll make my mind up on the day and maybe come and find you all.

have a good one.

Duncan

Hi Duncan

I too will be in my new 4m Avon with a 40 HP Mariner so wont be batting along - as the wife is a little sceptical about such a small RIB. We are launching at Camber so would be good to have another 4M along to gauge my new one by. We may only go as far as Cowes - not sure yet - will see what the sea state is. Hope to see you there.

Graeme

Dont worry, i can only just get over 30kts with my 17"prop, to get any decent range with my fuel tanks 20 kts is OK. hopefully Its not going to be a race leaving people behind, just a nice social gathering and comfortable cruise for everyone, You should really try and make it.

I don't think anyone's planning on nailing it around at WOT. A nice steady 18-20 knots will do!

here here.

I don't recall anyone saying an "easy 25 knots", I said "an easy 30 mins at 25 knots", and there's a difference, the maths was "easy"

Nos will probably confirm that whilst I might be a bit of a speed freak, I'm also one of the first to stop and wait for the slower boats in groups, or turn round to check those who have stopped are OK.

still hoping my engine will be ok in time, taking her in tomorrow for some looking at...

Funny, I never really though of you as a speed freak

What's up with your motor Neil?

Wouldn't I like to know!
It runs happy as larry, but doesn't like to start when warm, unless the idle arm is pushed up. But, if left to cool down, starts perfectly again. May be overheating I guess, but water is peeing out no problem. May be a sensor that senses the position of the throttle arm apparently.
So I have no idea, but it seems to be a continuation of that check engine light coming on when you were out with me by the lightship late last year.
She goes in tomorrow, so hopefully will find out next week.
