More boats from kent

Possability of three more boats coming from my way but as yet unconfirmed plus of course mine, i've been told it can be awkward to tie up to southend pier if there is a swell, but guess we'll have to wait and see.

Mike can't make it now (either date) so unless your gang can make it Rat just the two of us. What is your cruising speed in various conditions? How much fuel do you carry?

I'll aim to be in Herne Bay at 11:30am, adjusting my departure from Margate / Ramsgate depending upon conditions.

I only have one crew confirmed to date so if it's really rough jump in with me???

I Have no experience of the pier in anything but quite calm conditions i'm afraid, Alan might be the man for some more info...

Assuming you mean me?

Never tied up at the end of the Pier but know it is possible/legal/permitted. (leastways according to the Almanac it is.) I would be wary about it if any serious swell was running but if its calm and there aren't too many of you it would OK I'd think.

Can't think of any other reasonable rendevous between Kent and Essex, leastways not where you can get off for a hot wet on a Jan day!

Might pop down and say hello depending on circs.

Cheers Alan, yes i meant you! Hope you can make it for a coffee - bring the camera!

Having tied onto the Pier 2 or 3 times i would say there will be no problem for 5 or so boats which is all we are talking about.

I can't suggest an alternative plan if it is too rough but best we all exchange mobile numbers to discuss it on the morning of the 24th if it's blowing 50mph!

Also suggest we agree a VHF channel (no almanac to hand, 77?). Anyone else with DSC? My MMSI is 235013602.

Alan,
you are welcome to come with Bern and I if your back is up to it.

As the tides are more favorable on the 24th, we may launch from Herne bay too.

Sorry Alan, most rude of me you are of course welcome to a lift, but we did once (Plymouth) discuss you never being able to get in a boat less than 7m again i think!

Hi Daniel

i can confirm at least one other boat from mine going from Herne bay, have a friend towing around from Southampton for the weekend who's interested in a channel trip at some point in the future so interested in talking with you about various aspects, He owns a 5.5 searider with an 80hp 4 stroke.
Also have had a tentative interest from Neil A who might bring the Kent scouts county boat Centurus round for the trip (if he can get a day pass)

I've also been contacted by someone else i was chatting to last year about a Thames cruise (hi Chris) who may be comming along with another friend of his, not to sure at this stage where they will launch from.

I can carry enough fuel to make it there and back easilly, if its anything higher than a force 4-5 i'll probably jump in with you or one of the others, i can run normally at about 30 knots if i'm alone and the winds behind me :-) high tide at Herne bay i believe is 14:40 on the 24th you might just be able to get into the harbour at 11:30 as i believe its a spring tide that weekend. If the weathers a bit nasty and we cant get onto the Pier at Southend an alternative meeting point could be the pontoon at Queensbourgh on sheppy, we could all moor on the floating moorings and leave one of the small boats on the pontoon if there is a lot of us, Queensbough has a few good pubs and eateries and of course the chandlers, suggest we arrange to meet at Southend with the entire group and then make a decision where to go from there.

let me know your thoughts.

Richard

Jason & Daniel

Thanks for the kind offer of a place on your boats. I'll see how the weather is nearer the time! If you do go to Southend Pier I'll come down in any event to play with my new digicam and hopefully get some decent shots for you.

Cheers,
Alan
