Poly has a poly boat too and everyone talked to him and enjoyed his company ..so I cant see your boat being a problem.

I would suggest that all boats should be able to plane ..so everyone else is not kept at displacement speed as we tend to keep together

To add a couple of photos ..in case anyone is concerned with tide races in the area.. they are pussy cats when you know them ..so don’t be put off by that aspect. Its not an endurance test or white knuckle outing...its a couple of days boat exploring with a nights wild camp.

I for one.. wont be going in any sea conditions that push the limits of SIBBERS. Sometimes weather can catch me out but I have done the routes that many times that.. hopefully I know safe landing spots..and times to tackle the tides...if the weather catches me unawares.

Do be aware .. I am like H Haggis..and am only another fellow SIBBER.

Safety is down to yourselves..its not an “organised outing” as such. .just a meeting of like minded SIBBERS.,,who will be exploring the area together...and enjoying a campfire BBQ n beer in a remote area.

In the tide race off Lismore point on a nice day.

Wild Camping at North end of Sound of Mull

Falls of Lora at slack tide.

Wild Camping in Loch Etive.

Thanks Breezeblock .. Im alive but have been more shuffling than kicking lately..but Im on the mend and that is the main thing.

I have plenty photos to wet folks appetite for the trip ..so here are a few more.

This route is only a suggestion..and its all weather dependant on a reasonable day. Its up to the folk who are going to decide with Highland Haggis where to go..and of course the weather on the day ..will have first say

Its around 30 miles from Oban ..up the sound of mull to a decent wild camp spot...then weather ..time and mood dependant.. further exploration around Oronsay, Risga and Carna islands are always worth the effort ..narrow channels .. flowing tides ..seals and scenery being in abundance.

A tea break can be had at Loch Aline pier and hamburger stall

A stop at Tobermory is always a colourful experience

The Sound of Mull is reasonably sheltered from south westerly winds as its relatively narrow. You can hug the coast..so no exposed bits

Scenic Carna crofts

With narrow channels and seals

Which then leads to Loch Teacuis

Yup..I would rather be there than in a hospital ward ..so I will be making every attempt to join in the fun.

I will be taking the Quicksilver and 25HP for this trip..my wee F Rib can have the weekend off

Anyone interested .. just put your name down so H Haggis gets an idea of the numbers.

thanks guys - already looking forwards to it. Photies look great. (Although I know the weather is never really that good in that part of the world! I spent a week in Oban with my boat wind bound in Dunstaffnage - and the tent almost got blown inside out... And it was wet... But still fun!

Personal experience suggests there may be a upper limit to LOA. I hadda conceal my boat for 48 hours while I joined their first trip to Belnahua...

I've sent the previous dialogue to HH. There isn't really an issue, the policy seems to allow overnight stays but the machine doesn't, so you buy two one day tickets. They suggest letting them know so they can remind and traffic wardens. Its probably good practice to tell the CG too, as a concerned citizen might well be worried about half a dozen people with rubber dinghies who don't come back at night. I have always sent a passage plan for these big trips to Belfast or Stornoway CG in advance (by email) and then called on the day to confirm actual number of boats and Pob.

I don’t know what the outcome was Breezeblock ..but its certainly been a bone of contention with locals..although I believe the ground was gifted to the people of Oban ..which in theory means council controlled ?

https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp...at-oban-beach/

You will notice from the link .. the council say its free on a Sunday anyhoo..so in theory only needs a one day ticket anyhoo ?

When we did the outing from there two years ago..the ticket machine was out of order..and I have even seen a bag over it quite often in the past..so its been out of action quite a few times.

Think I have only paid a couple of times in the many years I have used it.

There was a sign saying No Overnight Parking but that was to prevent campervans parking up beside the local houses..i think the sign was removed..but i didn’t launch once there last year at all as I spent most my time boating around Skye or the Solway Firth last year.

Best contacting the council anyhoo ..it keeps things right when there is a group of cars / trailers .. in a past life ..I worked in Oban a lot and had to deal with councils over road closures etc..and they were always very helpful.

many years ago you had to pay £5 to launch guess that was when it was privately owned

many ..many more years ago .. you had to have a pilots license to use the slipway Jeff .. the reason its there..and why its so wide .. is because it was built to launch and recover the seaplanes at the local base.

I'm quite happy to pay ..and glad to see the carpark is well kept ..plus public toilets ..for 2 quid a day. Remove all the signs ..council control etc..and risk having the travelling people camp up there for the summer

I travel all over Scotland too..but stay overnight by parking late and gone again in the morning..before anyone notices..and leave no trace of my stay

Thanks to Explore Cowal for emailing me about this one. Looks like a lark, so I'm in so long as I can persuade the missus to look after the kids.
