Its waiting for someone to organise it! Unfortunately I'm too busy with work and life to be able to pick a weekend and commit to it far in advance to do that this year. If someone else does that though - I'll tag along if I am free.

Hi Highland Haggis ..

I would have flown the flag for Poly this year ..if I wasn’t in much the same circumstances.

Not work issues for me but body maintenance stuff due to my age and years of neglect.

Example ..Im still in recovery surgery from last week..where my gall bladder was removed ..and Im now waiting a date for more tests / procedures on kidney stones and a fatty liver. Its not the Guinness that got me .. but a hereditary condition I had never heard of until last year.

Hemochromatosis.. too much iron is my poison.... (and not the alcohol I have been known to self medicated with.)

Fortunately for me .. Im not on the scrap heap yet as the condition is treatable

I also assist another forum with their Scottish SIB outings and sadly could only manage one day last September as I got notice to go for MRI scans on the other day. I felt I let them down a bit but there was nothing I could do.

With the health service in Scotland in a similar state to the UK (My opinion only as it has taken a one year wait for my gall bladder operation while our government tell folks it should only take 12 weeks or so). I don’t want to cancel any short notice hospital dates. Therefore I could not commit to organising and the worry of letting others down at the last moment.

I am certainly willing to offer route suggestions ..camp spots .. local advice to anyone who wishes to take the lead .. as I did for Poly in the past two years. I will also attend if I can (there is a very good chance I can manage but Im sure you can now appreciate ..I cant guarantee anything at present)

I do hope someone will step forward and take the lead as it was always a very enjoyable outing .. My thanks again to Poly for doing it when he could

Ach..it saved many a sore head PD.. I'm doing fine too..hope to be able to drive again this weekend. thanks also for the get well soons

Thanks to you too Jeff..Im still hoping we can meet up one day

Hey..do you know anyone who could sell on a pile of black puddings for me ?

The treatment for Hemochromatosis is to give a pint of blood per week ..for a year or more.. till the iron levels drop. I hate wasting a good business opportunity ..and it could get me some beer money

I will give you a PM nearer the time Maximus..and Jeff as I intend coming around for a meet up. ..and to top up some lost life’s blood with some good going gravy.

Im also just waiting for the winds to die down so I can have my first SIB adventure this year. I have to be careful not to “spill the beans” by lifting too much weight .. just in case stomach stitches start stretching ..so I have the lightest of my boats in the boot of the car ready to go as soon as I can drive.

The call of the sea is still very much in my ears ..so there should be a few Gurnard adventures posted when things settle.

As for a Scottish Sib outing.. why don't folk that are interested in one put their names down here and say where they might like it to be ?

I'm sure Poly will agree that there is not much to organising it.. in fact everyone can ..just by listing their names.. a suitable date ..and location. Then a vote for best suggestions.

I can suggest camp spots for most locations as I know Scottish Coasts as well as anyone. I can also offer routes.. if for example folks say "Clyde..Oban.. Skye" wherever.

Its up to you guys..after all its everyone's day out .. I will assist where and when I can..and will surely go if Im not flying high on morphine

I can handle the good gravy.. but the pain killing granules get right up my nose

Hope to see you again too Kerny .. Mallaig was a blast last year :-D

Hey..Sorry Highland Haggis..I missed your post.. and its a great offer. I will assist as much as I can as I know Oban area well..and have some good weather routes ..mid weather routes and also a poor weather route. Last year I went up the Sound of Mull in a Force six in the F Rib 2.75.. and know a few camp spots too.

Poly..perhaps you could assist Highland Haggis by changing the title of this tread to something like Scottish Sib outing 2017 ? Then folks will see it and can add names etc

Perhaps you can suggest a weekend date Highland Haggis.. and its started the ball rolling for the outing

I will attend assuming Im not stuck in a bed somewhere I don't want to be

For an Oban start.. Ganavan Sands Public Slipway is suitable for the meetup. A large council car park and good launch facilities...even a public toilet.

From the slipway..you can head south to Easdale area.. West to Sound of Mull area ..North to Fort William ..or if weather is very bad.. east into Loch Etive ..a 20 miles long loch Sea Loch with excellent fishing.

To access the Sound of Mull ..you have to cross the tide race at the southern end of Lismore. In a wind against tide situation .. this can be quite exciting in a SIB.. so it is a fair to good weather route.

The good thing about the Oban Location is a variety of routes to suit the weather .

Count me in H Haggis.

Done!

And you are quite right its not a major job to organise. You've now done the hardbit - picking a date, and a starting point. I'd support what G says about Ganavan sands being a logical launch point.

I'm a definitely maybe! Subject to family and work commitments etc...

Put my name down as a definite maybe please.... Attendance dependant on being able to get the engine run-in before then [which may be difficult with daughter's wedding and suchlike to arrange.] I don't want to run the falls of Lora limited to quarter throttle - and even the Lismore tides would be a handful! But would be great to meet up with you all and pick your brains / examine your rigs!. [Can I assume a rotomoulded boat will not disqualify me or is there some kind of apartheid that I should know about?]

And if the weather/tides are appropriate - the pierhouse at Port Appin might make a nice lunch spot for those who like very good (expensive) food - and its a nice place for a picnic as well!
The Craignure Inn on Mull is also a nice place - but crossing the sound (for me) relies on very settled weather...
