I am up for this in a few weeks, If I launch at Dunoon I am only minutes away from Kip.
In the next couple of weeks the boat will be usable, if not finished, and I want a few trips out before the summer goes!

I went shore side. It was OK, won't plan to go back specially next year - but if it turns out I have nothing else to do I would pop along. There was quite a lot going on - although not necessarily particulalry obvious what was happening (commentary was focussed on the stage (radio clyde?) rather than the water). The main crowds weren't really focussed on the water side activities either - probably just as well as there is a limit to the number of people who can see that from the shore. Freestyle jet skiing - very impressive. Zap cats at close range - very tempting. Sea plane - attention grabbing (I think they landed further upstream than normal). Tried to go on the tall ship, and possibly to take a short rib trip but after queing for 15 minutes and only moving 1/4 of the way to the entrace we abandonned that plan.

The site actually has some real potential for spectator based water sports - 3 bridges across the river and both sides to view from means you can get closer to the action than in most places.

However the main draw back was its location: Glasgow (I am a born a bred Weegie - but Glasgae's population were doing little to present the city in its best light yesterday!). This problem is probably exacerbated by it being free and there being free busses from across the city to get there - so every bored ned in the city seemed drawn to it! All IMHO of course.

I wouldn't leave a car on the north slip of the renfrew ferry if you paid me. I still remember getting robbed at knifepoint in broad daylight on the slip afer getting off the ferry when I was about 11 or 12.
Yoker hasn't improved much since then
There is more parking on the other side and I would be slightly (only slightly) more relaxed about leaving the car and trailer on that side.
Wouldn't you know it though, I am in Orkney when folk are visiting the area......

considering its only 2 weeks away its distinctly lacking in information - like where they are planning on leaving from (the clyde is a big place) and likely to visit...

I'm still here - just that life and I are having disagreements on priorities

However, things are sort of coming together (cross fingers, turn round 3 times and spit). Tuesday - wee jaunt from Lamlash down to the south end of Arran in the murk. I had to wear the Gecko to stop my eyes hurting (I was lasered about 6 weeks ago - not for vanity reasons, I assure you); it must have worked 'cos I didn't mince the kayakers off Pladda

Wednesday - over to Largs at lunchtime, Mrs. G. found a nice surveyor (hello Paul!), got the VHF fixed (corroded power lead - ta young James @ DDZ), refuelled (that smarted) then home for tea and book-keeping

2215, back on the water leaving Lamlash for a trundle around Arran spotting the lighthouses (hey, if it's good for royalty...), back on the mooring at 0115. Away to Scotland c/o CalMac on the 0820, back on the 1230. I think I've spent more time on the water than on land in the last week - bits of me are still wobbly (NO! NO! NO! not those bits ).

Anyway, Mrs. Grocer fancies a jaunt round the Kyles in the dark (she says the scenery's better at night). Who's up for it next week? Tuesday's good for us - the Met is looking good for most of the week.

We've got some spare seats if anyone is prepared to rough it/take their chances - all donations gratefully received (bring a scrubbing brush...)
