Trevor will doubtless post a VHF channel but we're happy to liaise. 10am looks optimistic (the faffing - given that I'm likely to have inexperienced crew - could be big!) but it would be good to have company. PM will be sent tomorrow....

On the return you'll have about 1m of water (above datum) at 2.35pm. I reckon you'll be lucky to get a Scorpion into Christchurch after then. You may have to have a brief lunch!

Best David

David, Chrstchurch can be a challenge especially at springs but it hasn't beaten me yet. And before anybody else says it I know there's always a first time!

Not to worry if you think 10 is a bit early, I'm probably being optimistic anyway.

Re-posted Plan for Round the IOW

OK - so the original plan seems to have gone AWOL!.
Attached are my rough plans for Saturday 24th March 2012 round the IOW.
The current prediction is for midday Saturday - which is when slack tide is at Ventnor. The passage plan is for an average 22 kts and shows that the total distance round the Island is about 50 miles and should take about 2 1/2 hours (+ lunch and other stops). NB - the points on the plan have not been checked for safe passage and have been used for time and distance planning only.
At the moment the plan is to launch at Southampton Crosshouse Slip at about 10.00 so we are on the water for 10.30.
Aiming to rendezvous off Cowes (around the Prince Consort Northern Cardinal Marker) at about 11.00 - maybe a shade after.
Head East clockwise round the Island to Ventnor for a quick lunch. We should get to Ventnor around midday.
NB - we don't really want to spend much longer than an hour in Ventnor or we will get a rough passage as we round St Catherine's point.
Carry on round the Island via Freshwater Bay, the Needles and Yarmouth - spending as long as we want at each place depending on who needs to get back to meet various tidal restraints. It's about 30 mins from St Catherine's to Freshwater Bay, another 30 to Yarmouth then about 30 again to Cowes.

VHF Channel and Mobile number!

For Saturday let's set VHF Channel 8 as the preferred channel.
My Mobile is 07840 975807.
If possible can people who have said they are intending to join us drop me a text if you have problems on the day, or are running very early or late! (and if you do text can you include your Ribnet name, boat name, and real name in the message so I have a vague chance of knowing who it's from!).

As most of us will be in small boats with just handheld radios don't be surprised if communications get a bit dodgy. We won't be able to hear most calls unless we are stationary and can see you anyway . - oh yes - and the mobile will be tucked away in a dry pouch so won't be that easy to use either

All passage planning etc is entirely up to each skipper.

If anyone is running very late in the morning, maybe try and buddy up with another boat and catch up in Ventnor!

Hi Andy
If we are running to schedule We should be passing the red marker that marks the end of Ryde Sands at about 11.15 - 11.20. (near UP6 on the passage plan)
This is probably a good point to join us as if you are early (or we are late) you can potter up towards Cowes to meet us.

We MIGHT be able to make it after all. Still a couple of things to finalise before a definite. If so, we would be launching at Yarmouth then heading to Cowes to meet up at the rendezvous point.

Hopefully at least some will bring anchors and we can ferry them in from outside the harbour!
Otherwise I'm hoping that for the smaller boats (like ours) we can pull up onto the small beach inside the harbour. As it will be approaching high tide this should be feasible.

Our Searider is around 1991 vintage - so yours might not be the oldest boat!
