Round Bardsey for Macmillan 6/7 May 2017

Last year we had a successful turn out with 30 ribs circumnavigating Anglesey and in the process raised over £1500 for Macmillan. This year I thought that it would be good to circumnavigate a smaller but equally interesting island off the North Wales coast - Bardsey

The proposed date is Saturday the 6 May with a fall back being the Sunday. Tides are neaps this weekend and this makes launching and storage of trailers on the beach easy for Chris and his crew at Ty Calch.

The intention is to cruise in company with similar sized ribs with the emphasis being on enjoyment and not racing. As usual with these gatherings, everyone is responsible for their own safety, planning and preparation. However as we get closer to the time we will try and buddy up with someone of a similar size.

The plan is to leave the Straits at 10.00 and head across Caernafon Bay towards Port Dinllaen then running down the Lleyn Peninsula coast. It should take around 2 hours to reach Bardsey where hopefully we can rendezvous for lunch. On the return leg we should be able to call in at the Tycoch for a drink or two before returning perhaps via Llandwyn (Pilot Cove).

The total distance is around 70nm. The waters around Bardsey can be tricky so some smaller ribs may want to cut the run short and stop at the Tycoch. I may even do that myself if the conditions are not favorable!

I am hoping to organise a social gathering on the Saturday evening but it will be slightly different from last time. I am working on this at the moment and will post more detail when I have a firm plan.

Hopefully we will get as a big an interest as we did last year. Please spread the word. The crusie is open to all.

Happy New Year

Nick

It would be good to see you and Emma again. I would still like to run along side Lolar with Just Looking. Hopefully you can get the weekend off!

It would be really good if you can some along- just trying to keep an annual event going that you also promoted so well.

Cheers Nick, did it for a good few (5?) years, more than happy for you to continue the good work after your previous efforts!! Should be with you and can pull through the Swellies any "Menai Strait Virgins" if they're launching from Conwy/Beaumaris/Menai end for the best bit ;-)
