Not sure I'll make it all the way round Anglesey but definitely up for a trip through the straights and then a bit of a piss about in Caernarfon Bay. Assuming I get my trailer sorted in time, what prep do i need to make for this jaunt? Do the people who say they are launching at Beaumaris mean ABC powermarine? or is there a free slip round there somewhere? Boatlaunch lists a slip at Beaumaris itself but it doesn't sound that nice. Do i need to register with the council or summat?

Menai bridge slip by Porth Daniel is by far the best option on the island side. Fully tidal, concrete and parking.

ABC is only 2 hrs either side of high water. Not great for the trip as we're heading off earlier than that.

Beaumaris by the pier is v short but people then launch off the beach with 4x4s.

Hmmm, looks like that one was the one boatlaunch was less the complimentary about:
"Access is difficult to this launch site, and the slipway is awkward one too. The slipway is straight into water (Menai Straits), near the suspension bridge and is accessible 24 hours a day. Beware of the step at the bottom of the slipway at very low water."

"There is no charge for parking from here, but there are very limited parking spaces available - vehicles are parked on grass verges."

Is this about right?

Nope. Whole top area of site was refurbished/Tarmaced last year improving access. A car park opposite was built and is owned by the relatively new Porth Daniel boatyrd and they charge a very small fee for secure trailer/car storage. They'll even tractor launch and recover you if you want. This provides more turning and reversing etc Access to slip is fine these days unless you're in a boat well over 7m.

The whole area has been redeveloped in the last two years. Bar, restaurant and boatyard.

The slip has a step at the bottom exposed on a Very big tide in the last half hour.

Yes you're by the bridges.... And the problem is?

Google Porth Daniel.
