Tyne river police got no sense of humour
I got done for speeding twice on the tyne when I was a lad

That said the tide does rip through the bridges at certain states of tide causing standing waves at the swing bridge piers.
If it was organised so they arrived at slack high water then it's doable but I guess controlling the alcohol intake will be the difficult part

It's not SIBs - it's lilos, rubber rings and inflatable dolphins - of course they are worried!

I think the police a correct, that part of the Tyne is not a place to be, especially in a plastic play boat! It's tidal and the incoming tide holds back the river from exiting then at the change of tide the whole lot rushes out to sea! It's big and wide and whirly at that section.
