True, but we're looking for quality, not quantity

We could debate the issue for months. We could have a poll. We could even (god forbid) form a committee. But is that what we want?

If anyone is prepeared to put in some effort to facilitate the gathering, then the venue will be their choice. Whatever the location some people will join in, and others won't. If we have people who want to get people together in Swansea and Inverkip we'll have two RIBnet conferences this year. We may even have another at RIBEX.

No RIBnet "event" is official. It's what anyone wants it to be. For anyone thinking that a conference has a timetable, an agenda and a programme of speakers -- you've got the wrong end of the stick

FWIW I quite fancy an excuse to get up to Scotland for a few days, and I have friends who live on Gower who I'd like to see, so either of the current suggested venues would be fine with me.

Having said that, it's traditional for me not to be able to attend due to work commitments so it probably won't make any difference . . .

John

Well said John.

As the thread starter may I take the liberty and suggest that both venues are selected, ie SW and Inverkip and the local members nominate themselves the venue organisers and run two seperate threads. Say both venues at a different time. Who knows some members may want to participate at both

We are happy to help if needed Andre. Kevin (Aging Youth) put a lot of work into organising one in Cowes. Think he is keen to help also. Perhaps it might be worth you experienced peeps plumping for one and settling on the other next year? Say, S. Wales 2006 then Inverkip 2007?

(At the end of the day it's impossible to please everyone !)

I cast my mind back to 2004 at RIBEX when we had a great weekend and the evening in the Fountain with Alan Priddy and Co talking about .....Well RIBs and grand voyages.

Can't something be done next year at RIBEX? Even if there is another organised event later in the year. Maybe South Wales, doing the Severn on a flood tide .

I guess that the weekend would encompass a guest speaker/s, some RIBing and alot of drinking. Perhaps there could be a more serious content like basic First Aid or Emergancy Action demo's, demo's on GPS navigation plotting etc, with donated moneys going to RNLI or another worthy cause.
