I was thinking more Co Cork than further north ..... but if your generosity could extend to a case, it might solve the potential fuel difficulties for the Paris run!

Yep, had it done in Gsy a couple of weeks ago. Keith sorted it out, he'll be able to give you the details if you want.

These people did the work:

Sorry, but you'd need an etec for that

Can you toggle between ATIS and normal transmissions after the ATIS number has been programmed and is this something South Pier can do now they're Icom dealers?

It becomes a third option with USA and INT, you can flick between them easily. Worth asking at South Pier but I don't know. Although they got rid of the electronics repair w/shop years ago, Richard who did all the work is still in the shop.

I did ask South Pier before contacting Icom direct, but SP don't do it any more. The only CI Icom authorised agent is RES in Gue. Enough TLA's?

Mine's an ICOM 603 but works, I assume, similarly: once ATIS is programmed, you push and hold [H/L] and push [DIAL] to toggle between INT - USA - ATIS.

ATIS cannot be used within British Territorial waters (the UK is not a signatory to the Basle Agreement). The official version is "within 14 miles of the coast" but I suspect that this is 12 miles (UK territorial waters) with a two mile margin for error.

Having studied International Law (some thirty years ago!), I know that Territorial Waters between territories closer than 24 miles (those with 12 mile territorial waters) split the difference and reduce pro rata accordingly. Having studied Constitutional Law as well, however, (also some thirty years ago!) I regret that I am unable to advise (without research and billing commensurately) what the legal position of the Channel Islands is within all this since they are not part of the UK (and I am only qualified in any event to advise on UK law) Phew

Taken from the OFCOM website:

[QUOTE]As the UK has not yet acceded to the Basel agreement, the variation to the ship radio licence only allows ATIS equipment to be used out with the territorial waters of the UK and Channel Islands./QUOTE]

I've recently bought an Icom 603 to back up my 505 and it's the 603 I had ATIS enabled, it works as you describe so no worries there. £25 or something I think they charged

They seem to have done my progamming free of charge (with the radio having been sent back to them for other (charged) work as well)

Your research with OFCOM has saved me the need to do it and the potential for billing

Thought you might. And it runs on anything remotely flammable. The US mil now have a policy of being multi-fuel for everything it possibly can I believe. Here's a very interesting roll test with the MFE (on a Commando Futura no less) showing how it can be restarted even after a dunking. Such is the awesomeness of eteyyc technaalageee as the bloke says towards the end

Edit: I remember asking you the pressure of the speed tubes a while back. Right at the beginning it is interesting to note that it is obvious that they are no higher pressure than the main sponsons since they compress almost fully under the bloke's weight.

It's amazing what you can do if you take the day off work. Today I extended my boat insurance to cover the entire English Channel including inland waterways, I sent off for my ICC certificate, I contacted that Guernsey company Erin mentioned to get my radio ATIS-enabled, I sent off for an ATIS number and I bought a new floatation suit and the latest edition of "Through the French Canals" by David Jefferson. According to this authoritative tome there is fuel by portage at PK278, PK150, PK73, and PK48. It confirms quayside fuel at Le Havre an Port d'Ilon. Fuel can also be delivered by tanker at Honfleur for quantities over 200 litres.

I assume the Honfleur tanker is principally aimed at diesel drinkers. Never heard of a petrol bowser delivery for a boat.

Reminds me that I must check my insurance limits as well, did it cost you any more for the extension? I still have to do my CEVNI, but I've been practising in the hope that I will be able to do it without cheating
