Sorry I didn't think of the ATIS thing at the time

On the bright side Icom have a great reputation for quick turnaround and easy contactabilityness, even though they are in deepest darkest Kent.

Just been chatting through this cruise idea with Martini and we were contemplating distances and timescales. Because of the speed restrictions on the river, there is no way this is a 1 day cruise, especially given the distances from Jersey to Honfleur. Doing a quick estimate on my plotter software, the legs break down as follows:-

Jersey to Cherbourg - 50nm +/-
Cherbourg to Honfleur - 70nm
Honfleur to Rouen - 60nm
Rouen to Paris - 120nm

We may need a small detour to Alderney as well to pick up Malthouse.

Just need to pick a date and choose some weather

Yep, it's always going to be a long one, even if we only have a day in Paris.

That's why I was going to propose Easter hols for this one as theres already 4 days without time off work.

I was planning to start a few upcoming cruises threads very soon inc one for this trip unless someone beats me to it.

Even longer now that I have corrected my 'small' error in locating famous cities where they really are, and not where I thought they were. Seem to have muddled up Rouen with Paris. Previous post now edited. May need a bit more fuel than first thought as well.

What dictates the viability of this trip is the availability of fuel at Rouen and Paris. Previous trips have had a nightmare with the fuel barges only accepting French fuel credit cards and having strange opening hours. The only other option is 'portage' which means you're hostage to how far the nearest garage is. Clearly a trolley is a 'must have' accessory here.

In any case, I'll need to get my ICC sorted at some stage as well as the exam thingy for French waterways before I can come along. I'd like to think that as a hero of Avranches the French would grant me access to any river, no questions asked....er..

I've got the Fluviacarte guide for La Seine Aval (Le Havre to Paris), by all accounts it's the "bible" for this route but I keep hearing the info on facilities is inaccurate.

From what I've gleaned from hours of net searching is that fuel is reasonably available quayside in the non tidal section (Paris-Rouen) PK0 to PK 242. PK, or "Point Kilometre" is the distance in km from the Paris lock near Notre Dame. The open sea is at PK355, Rouen is at PK242.

So fuel appears to be available at PK81 Marina Port St. Louis, PK121 Port L'llon and PK 241 Rouen. Also in Paris itself, 3 or 4 clicks upstream of the lock, near to the Paris Arsenal marina, the main place to stay in Paris.

Downstream of Rouen there appears to be no fuel until Le Havre which is about 90nm, this would seem to be the longest leg without fuel, all needs confirmation though.

I've just spotted a throwaway comment in my guide about locks being closed at Easter but can't find anymore on this so who knows

I can see this is going to take some organisation....
