Poole to Yarmouth - between Christmas and New Year

As I have a few days off at this time of year I plan to head over to Yarmouth for a lunch at the Wheatsheaf or perhaps Off The Rails in Yarmouth. Anyone else want to join us on the way over from Poole, Swanage or Christchurch ? 27th Dec would be my choice at this stage. Chris

As ever it’s weather permitting but we plan to bring our two teenagers and possibly some other friends. I’ll post again before Christmas for a final head count and then book somewhere in Yarmouth. Feel free anyone else to post here before this so I get a rough idea.

Hi Chris - Hopefully we'll be up for this as well.
(Maybe this year we'll do the annual Nacho Run on the 31st rather than 7th Jan -or maybe both!)

Could be interested too. Just a few minor electrical niggles to fix between then and now.

I'm going to have to bail

The Mrs is working and I don't fancy trying to keep my 2 year old entertained the whole way to IOW and back in wintertime.

Have a good one

I'm ready and waiting for this one, especially as I'm out of the country over the Nacho run, but the weather isn't looking overly promising…

That said, today's Windguru forecast for Poole at least is showing Wednesday as a gap in the storms!

Wednesday is looking good. Spending tomorrow getting trailer balanced! (Look out for the Crimbo Compo) All being OK will launch from Cobb's Quay - What sort of time and place is everyone else leaving from and hopefully we'll see you on the water.

Hmmmm, it's still looking fairly gusty on WindGuru, seems to have filled in the gap that was there previously! I launched on Saturday afternoon so the boat is in the water ready, and did my trailer maintenance today - needed to swap several split pins that keep the rollers in position, as one of the rollers jumped over it last time I recovered the boat.

Today in between fixing the GPS wiring, and wiring up a new bilge pump switch, I did pop out to Studland between the light rain showers, and it was probably blowing 18kn, but okay with the protection of the Purbecks.

I'll test it out again tomorrow at some point hopefully!

If Wednesday goes ahead, I'll see when others are leaving, but I typically leave somewhere 11:00-11:30, and depending on sea state allow 30-45 mins to get to Yarmouth.

25kn at the moment with a short sharp chop inside the harbour, and a reasonable swell outside. I went into Studland Bay and towards Old Harry, and was pretty lumpy when past the training bank, so I'm sure that clear of Old Harry it wouldn't have been very pleasant at all!

No one else afloat though that I could see, other than the chain ferry, and I even managed to avoid the rain.

Now back for lunch!

Was very pleasant out in the sunshine this morning, but came in at ~12:30 as the rain started gradually. Popped up to CPL to get some diesel and wish John a Happy Christmas, but they had had an unexpected issue, and was closed after all, should be open again tomorrow.

I wasn't in urgent need, so ran out to Studland and circled round the bay to Old Harry, and then came back in as the rain swept across the Purbecks. Now looks all grey and miserable in the harbour!

Still look pretty windy tomorrow, but hoping it's not as windy as yesterday!

From Southampton, both tomorrow (Wed) and Thursday are doable for Yarmouth - just need to wrap up warm and keep to the mainland side of the Solent I think.

Thursday's a bit better than tomorrow, but I'm happy to aim at either if I'm not going to end up as Billy no-mates in the Wheatsheaf.

Anyone else want to commit to either day?

Agreed, Thursday definitely looks slightly better, sadly I need to be back in London then!

I'll be aiming for Wednesday, hoping that with the N/NW winds, and dropping through the afternoon, that there won't be much fetch, and sea state inshore will be okay. Certainly today it would have been fine this morning, fairly miserable now though!

But if anyone else wants to aim for Thursday given the slightly better forecast, then go for it, and I'll join a future event.
