Neil,

Where do you want to launch from ?

Was Warsash a good place for you to launch from or is Poole better ?

If its a perfectly calm day I wouldn't mind doing the trip from Warsash but might need help launching if I'm on my own. If its a bit rough or worse then I'll be launching from Poole with Rick.

Keep us posted. General itinery is to be a blast to somewhere with lunch in a local Tavern followed by a trip back. Probably need Nav Lights at this time of year.

Nick.

I'd like to think I'll be there for this one, will be doing it in my rib rather then the zapcat for this distance though

Not sure if Gray is available, but if he is, im sure he'll be along with me !

Hi Nick,

Was thinking of launching from Poole, but need to try and find some accomodation in the area first.

Went to see Baiter slip that weekend I had to abort. It's shallow like Warsash. Don't normally mind Warsash, but thought I'd get away with not using the rope last time, hence the scraping, the recovery went like a dream!

I'd prefer not to do a Warsash-Poole and return run as I'd like some time to explore the Poole area a bit, and since Warsash-Poole would be weather dependant, finding accomodation last minute might be tricky if that run is not possible.

will keep you posted.

Neil

Biggles has sugested that instead of the original plan of having a BBQ on the beach we could moor and have lunch in a pub.
I have had a ring around today and two possible destinations are:

Lulworth Cove 20.7nm from Baiter slip, Poole. The only pub is approx 0.5m from the beach they will be open lunch time new years day and be serving food, children are allowed, but they do expect to be busy.

Weymouth Harbour 28.3nm from Baiter slip, Poole. Lots of pubs nearby, I have spoken to 2 who will be open lunch time New Years day, serving food and allow children.

What would people prefer BBQ or Pub lunch?
Lulworth or Weymouth?

Richard

As stated I would prefer a pub lunch. Saves carrying the food and preparing it.

And I would prefer Weymouth if thats like Poole where you can tie up on the Harbour wall and just walk to the pub.

Here is the latest forcast for new years day.
It has changed a lot in the last 12 hours. Looking a bit iffy at the moment but plenty of time for it to change.

Looks like I spoke too soon.
My cousin has gone and cut down 7 conifer trees and blocked the RIB in. They won't be cleared until after New Year as all the staff are away and it'll be two days work for 2 peeps to clear it.

I don't think he thought it would be going anywhere at this time of year somehow

I'm still up for this depending on the weather obviously. Just filled the boat up with fuel so she's ready to go. I,m working till Sunday so will only be on the Net a little.

Also would appreciate someone posting a route to Baiter from the M27 etc.

Regards Nick R.

What time do people want to leave Poole? How about 10:00 -10:30
The weather maps are not looking to good at the moment but are changing hourly, we will have to see how things develop during the week.

The AA route isn't the easiest way when towing.

From the M27 follow signs to Ringwood then Bournemouth via A338.

When you get to the 50 limits follow signs for Poole.
Pick up signs for Poole Town centre when they appear then signs for Poole Park

Pass Poole Park boating lake on your left. At the roundabout take the 1st exit.

Pick up the brown signs for Public Slipway.

If you get lost at any time follow signs for Poole Quay (there's loads). Drive ALL the way along the Quay with the water on your right. Take the 1st proper right turn then after about 300 yards turn right into the carpark with the slipway in. Slipway is right at the end of the carpark. There's taps there for flushing.

1000 hrs for 1030 hrs is fine. As you say lets see what the weather brings.

Nos thanks for the directions. Must get Autoroute loaded back on. Would make things simpler.

No probs

When you get to Ringwood stick in the left lane for Bournemouth A338 and ignore the signs for Poole-it's an arse of a road to tow on.

BTW ignore the 'quay visitors' signs-it's the ones that say Poole Quay that you want. The visitors ones will send you to a carpark.

Hi Everyone,

I'm local to Poole & thought this might be of interest if your visit stays more local than Lulworth due to weather:

http://www.pooletourism.com/eventsca...curanceId=6780

Its the New Year's Day Bath Race held on the town quay & can be good fun to watch.....just a thought.

Have a great day.

Micheal

P.S. Would follow Nos4r2's directions especially if towing.

Weather

The forcasts for new years day are not looking good at the moment
Solent area: W 4-5
Poole area: W 5-6
Weymouth area: W 6-7
Still have a few days for things to change but not looking hopeful.
May be time to start thinking about possible alternative destinations, Poole to Studland , Poole to Swanage, or explore the bits of Poole harbour you always mean to see but never do (the worlds second largest harbour).
Richard

If you're planning on staying local then you can always have a bit of a burn around in Poole bay. NB although the harbour speed limit is a inapplicable as it is off season it'd be a bit of a p!sser for everyone else to have al load of RIBs screaming around the harbour. After that you can always head up the Wareham channel. Although the trip up the channel is pretty pedestrian (6 knt limit through the nature area) you can tie up at Wareham quay and the sample any of the pubs in the town (only 5 mins walk from quay).

Another option if you're staying in the harbour is to see if the Shell Bay fish restaurant is open. They've got top tucker and I seem to remember they even have a small jetty so that you can moor up and walk straight in.

Shell bay itself is shallow enough that you can take the bows of a RIB straight up onto the beach. Could be good for a beach BBQ, and only just outside the harbour

Just a few thoughts

Andrew
