Not sure about Plymouth, but we went for a quick first shakedown run in Torbay today- Brixham- Torqua & a bit of playing for 2 hours .... sea / visibility was fine but it was bloody cold.

We were the only boat out in Torbay this afternoon - not sure what that says about our intrepidieness/ foolhardiness. There were two padddle-boaders out as well - what is the point of doing that??

I was out on the river in Plymouth today, it was freezing cold but the conditions were great, we were out for less than 2 hours.

Would a postponement to the next decent bank Holiday - May the 6th - be an idea.

Not that I can be trusted with tide tables but I think it's a 1630 high tide and the sun will be shinning

Postponement? What a great idea. I don't think even Ian will be going tomorrow to Fowey with the winds today and through the night keeping the seas up.

I can't make May 6th as we are away but hopefully I will be able to meet up with you all on another occasion as the idea seems very popular.

Oh, yes , you have got the tides right this time.

I do think postponing the trip is a sensible idea.
It is bitingly cold out on the water at the moment, added to which the ENE wind is predicted to increase, and will be kicking up the sea - gusts upto Force 8 on the latest inshore forecast I've read.
I don't think it will be any fun on the water tomorrow.
I do think a pastie run is a great idea for a rib cruise and look forward to doing it another time.

A further thought, If there a a bunch of frustrated ribnetters kicking around the Plymouth area tomorrow we could convene in a pub or somewhere suitable fro aan hour or so to discuss how we would have successfully made the trip!

You must be a glutton for punishment, ha ha. Forecast is 10 or 12 mph winds gusting to 23 with a sea state- rough!!!! You obviously cannot get enough of it, rough that is.

I have to be ready to go out in any weather to do a rescue, you never know who or what needs rescueing, so is "rough" more or less than a 5 mtr swell

All this talk of Pasty Runs, as I am away on Saturday, and havent had the boat out since boxing day I needed a day out. We launched this morning at Saltash, wizzed round the harbour down the devon coast towards Newton Ferris. It was windy (F4 ish) and cold, seas were fine on the devon side. Wrapped up warm we were fine, you do need gloves and all the kit. My son got a bit cold and we headed back to for a hot meal, and bought him some decent gloves. My advice would be that its fine heading out of Plymouth on the sheltered devon side, lovey heading west with the wind behind you, but I would fancy a return trip from Fowey head into that wing too much.

Looking at the web cams (whilst there was light) the forecast and talking to people out diving today then my plan is to bin tomorrow and try again on the 6th May.

Any one else that was planning to go and are still up for it - have a cracking run butI'm going to be a lightweight shandy drinker and go to Woodlands with the kids instead.

I think you've made the right decision (though not sure about Woodlands when it's this cold!!! = a lon luch at a decent pub is even better)
The pastie run is a great concept, but conditiions for us leisure ribbers are pants - having been out yesterday and seeing the seas kicked up this afternoon from the Siberiean Easterly it would vary between - " not fun" and "downright risky". There is a time when discretion is the better part of valour.

I look forward to doing this later in the year - and indeed as an annual fixture- but when conditions are right.
