I was out off Saunton, Wooly, Croyde & Baggy Point last night just after high tide. There is no place to land or pick up unless you have a Zapcat!!:-) The surf was 2m high on the beach and pretty rough off Baggy Rock 2hr after the big tide even when the wind had dropped. Even the jetski surf jumpers gave up after an hour.

It is possible to pick up someone who has swum out beyond the surf, but unless its like a mill pond the rocks on the headland either side are unsafe.
Its Ilfracome or Appledore or the beach around the south of Braunton Burrows for safe pick-ups.
It was pretty rough going back over Bideford Bar 2 1/2hr after HW too -a good following "confused" sea:-)
